The founding fathers of the institute, the great visionaries and altruists, Sant Hari Singh Ji and Principal Harbhajan Singh, conceived the idea of establishing a co-educational college in the remote hinterland of Kandi area (mountainous belt of Doaba region of Punjab) during a tenuous economy of pre-independent India. Their efforts bore fruit and since its inception in 1946, the college has been at the vanguard in shaping the destinies of generations of students. The college which during the initial years of its growth imparted education in only two faculties, i.e. Arts and Science, has shown tremendous transformative capability over the years that has led to its emergence as a top-notch educational centre amongst the premier institutes of higher learning in northern India. In view of the emerging global trends in the field of education, the college has been redefining and redesigning its educational policies by introducing new courses, both at the under graduate as well as post graduate levels, in the faculties of Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Commerce, Computer Science, Physical Education, Fashion Designing and Agriculture with the sole objective of turning out physically fit, professionally competent, morally sound, mentally healthy and socially aware young boys and girls who are adequately equipped and fully armed to meet the challenges of the 21st century. S.G.G.S Khalsa College, Mahilpur has made its presence felt at the national level in diverse fields such as education, sports, sciences, arts etc. The institute takes pride in nourishing a number of eminent scholars, veterans and virtuosos of international renown. In the field of sports, Mahilpur is known as the nursery of football in Asia and right from its inception, the college has been serving as the lifeline of this nursery by offering the requisite infrastructure in the form of vast, well-maintained playgrounds as well as proper coaching facilities. No wonder, the care with which this sport has been nurtured at this college has made it emerge as one of the major strengths of the institution. The supporting managing committee and the dedicated staff work in tandem to make learning for the students a comprehensive experience by adding new dimensions to the vision of the founding fathers of this temple of learning. Excellence has ever been the hallmark of academics, sports and cultural activities at this college. Since its beginning, the institution has produced innumerable brilliant minds who Self Study Report S.G.G.S Khalsa College Mahilpur, Hoshiarpur P a g e | 6 have made their mark in such varied and diverse fields as armed forces, science, letters, education, administration, medicine, sports, engineering, politics, etc. Besides providing the students with ample opportunities and infrastructure to become professionally qualified, the college aims at fulfilling the objective of chiseling their personalities in such a way as to enable them to perform their personal, professional and social roles with aplomb; instilling in them proper attitude for effecting harmonious cohesion between traditional values and modern outlook; imparting to them holistic education whichnot only enhances their employability but also sensitizes them to contemporary socio-politico- economic, ethno-religious and techno-environmental concerns of local as well as global import; inspiring them to make pursuit of excellence in thought and action a motto of their lives; and empowering them with suitable professional skills and strategies and positive mental and emotional orientation to become a part of the continuous march of mankind towards a better tomorrow. To enhance quality-management in the complete work-culture, the institution has an ambience of constant self-evaluation and total accountability. We work towards meaningful and optimum utilization of our human, infrastructural and financial resources to provide ample opportunities to our students for learning governance, leadership, policy- making and team- ethics. This goes a long way in fostering social responsibility and nationalism among them. The suggestions given by the previousNAAC team worked as beacon lights for us on this path. Accreditation by NAAC is an opportunity for an objective introspection which helps us take an account of our accomplishments along with expanding the horizons of our future goals. All the constituents of the institution have been zealously engaged in a dogged pursuit of its cherished ideals and the outcome is impressively extensive. The task of its compilation into the SSR was a mammoth one. A core-committee, comprising members of the faculty from various disciplines, was constituted for the purpose, which deliberated upon and gleaned the relevant data from the copious information gathered by the sub-committees and the criterion-wise committees, from the Deans and Conveners of various clubs, Heads of different Departments and each member of the faculty for their appraisal. The task of assessment and re-accreditation of cycle-2 was taken up after detailed discussion in the staff meeting. A steering committee comprising of following members as required under the NAAC provision has been constituted as under: Dr. Parvinder Singh, Principal Prof. Bimla Jaswal, Dept. of Commerce (Chief Co-ordinator) Self Study Report S.G.G.S Khalsa College Mahilpur, Hoshiarpur P a g e | 7 Prof. Pawandeep Cheema, Dept. of English (Co-ordinator) Prof. Aradhna Duggal, Dept. of Mathematics (Member) Prof. Vikrant Singh Rana, Dept. of Chemistry (Member) Prof. Davinder Thakur, Dept. of Instrumentation (Member) Prof. Rakesh Kumar, Dept. of Commerce (Member) Prof. Sourabh Singh Rana, Dept. of Gandhian Studies (Member) Prof. Gurpreet Kaur, Dept. of Computer Science & IT (Member) Prof. Ved Parkash Sharma, Dept. of Physical Education (Member) Prof. Tajinder Singh, Dept. of English (Member) Prof. Parwinder Kumar, Dept. of Computer Science & IT (Member) This multi faculty premier institute is striving to carve a niche for itself on the education map by adopting innovative initiatives, acquiring new skills and employing new techniques. This report is the outcome of the collective efforts of
