SALES NEWS

TATTERSALLS AMENDS SALE DATES (edited press release) Tattersalls is to make changes to the published dates for this year=s October Yearling Sale with the three day Book 1 now set to begin Wednesday Oct. 5, followed by the three-day Book 2 commencing Tuesday Oct. 11. Book 3 will take place Friday Oct. 14 and, if numbers require, there will be a Book 4 which will take place Friday Oct. 28, the day after the conclusion of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale. Commenting on the changes, Tattersalls= chairman Edmond Mahony said, AThe changes are made on the assumption that our October yearling numbers reflect the smaller British and Irish foal crop. We looked long and hard at making these changes last year but the huge numbers precluded any room for manoeuvre. The reduced foal crop and the reintroduction of a Book 4 if required, allow these minor changes which will make the two weeks of the October Yearling Sale tighter and easier to work for both purchasers and vendors. The new dates will also mean that Book 1 concludes on the eve of >Future Champions Day= at Newmarket which will allow people to attend what promises to be an outstanding day of racing at Newmarket before

beginning to inspect the Book 2 yearlings in earnest on the Sunday. The two weeks surrounding Books 1, 2 and 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale should prove to be a wonderful climax to the European racing calendar. JONES RESIGNS AS KEEP CHAIRMAN Former Kentucky Governor and Airdrie Stud owner Brereton Jones has left his post as chairman of the Kentucky Equine Education Project. Jones helped form the lobbying organization, which is committed to educating the public to the economic importance of all breeds of the horse industry, seven years ago. AQuite frankly, there comes a time when most people have had about as much political involvement as they care to have, and I believe that I=ve reached that point,@ Jones told TDN. ABut make no mistake, I deeply love the horse industry at every level and will always stand willingly to help work and fight for its success. I think after seven Brereton Jones years, it would be helpful to have Horsephotos some new thoughts and ideas from a new chairman.@ Jones still sees room for growth in KEEP, which has expanded to 15,000-plus members since its inception.
