Handbook at the following link! As the Spanish teacher, I am delighted to see how excited your children are to learn. They will open their “ojos y orejas” to see and hear the Spanish language this semester as we learn to identify the parts of the body. At the same time, we will be weaving in the color words and numbers to broaden their vocabulary. I will also throw in an art lesson or two as they draw a self-portrait to help them remember each unique and special part of their faces/body. I can’t wait to see a room full of smiling caras http://www.am.dodea.edu/Elli ott/Forms/LaurelBayHandbook (faces!) .pdf Adios! Students are given a math fact quiz focusing on a specific addend such as +0, +1, +2, etc. They are given a set time to complete their quiz. They earn sticker gumballs each time they successfully complete their math fact quiz for their Gumball Machine Board. Students, who do not pass their quiz, will retake the same quiz until the facts are completed successfully. Should students have difficulty after taking a quiz, it is strongly suggested that they spend some time reviewing addition flash cards or math fact websites at home. Each student is working at their own level and pace.* It cannot be stressed enough the importance of having "Fact Power" and memorizing the math facts!! Using flash cards, math facts apps, and websites at home, is a great way to commit those facts to memory. Please continue to encourage your child and ask for updates on how they are doing on their Bubble Gum Math! February 22, 2016 Dear Parents, We will celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday the week of February 29 (Leap Year!) - March 4. On Wednesday, March 2 we will sing Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss on the morning show. Watch for the wonderful “birthday cake” our PTO made! They will be distributing a special little gift to commemorate Dr. Seuss’ birthday to all children. Dr. Seuss Bookmarks will be given to each student when they come to the library with their class. We will also have a special treat for all the classes. At 9:30, a group the Single Marines and Sailors, will come and read a Dr. Seuss book to each class. What fun! Each day one of Dr. Seuss’ books will be featured along with planned activities (please see the schedule below.) We hope all children will participate in the fun. Weekly activities: • Students will vote on their favorite Dr. Seuss book during library classes. Results will be tallied and graphed. • Each day a different Dr. Seuss book will be featured and we’ll celebrate it by wearing different items that correspond to the featured book. Celebrate Dr. Seuss Book Days: • Monday, Feb. 29- Green Eggs and Ham: Wear something green • Tuesday, Mar. 1- Fox in Socks: Wear crazy socks • Wednesday, Mar. 2- 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins/ Cat in the Hat: Crazy hats or a “Cat in the Hat” top hat. • Thursday, Mar. 3- The Foot Book: Decorate your footwear • Friday, Mar. 4: Oh, the Places You’ll Go!: Dress like you’re going on a trip. Now in its 19th year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child." • A map of America will be hung in the foyer. From Feb. 1 – Mar. 2, children may put their “Cat in the Hat” hats on the map when they finish reading a book. Let’s fill up our map and “Read Across America! • If you’d like to extend this celebration at home, you may want to look at this website.
