A fantastic little audio story, capturing all the fun and sci fi drama of Torchwood. Really entertaining and I loved the story, some epic moments too with the team and a nice addition of Martha Jones. View all 3 comments. Jul 23, Rick rated it really liked it Shelves: media-tie-indark-fantasyaudio-dramaswhoniversewhoniverse- torchwoodwhoniverse-captain-jack. Torchwood: Lost Souls wasn't sure exactly what to expect with this, but I really enjoyed. Not quite Torchwood: Lost Souls par with the series which I dearly love as much as Doctor Whobut it was still very entertaining and I'm looking forward to next one. Mar 08, May B rated it really liked it Shelves: media-tie-inaudiobook. Ambassador of Wales! Assistant Jack! This audiobook is an adventure with Martha and I rather enjoyed it. I also liked how they touched on those Torchwood: Lost Souls the team has lost and how they aren't really dealing with it despite telling everyone their fine and Torchwood: Lost Souls to worry. Again Barrowman's Jack comes out so flat but thankfully everyone else makes up for it. Just something so strange for an actor with such energy and charisma. Nice twist of an ending and good moments between all the characters but I really like the bit with Ianto and his grief, the way it so obviously still plays such a part in his life though we only catch little bits and pieces of it. All and all a short story but rather fast paced and definitly something great to listen to. Jul 22, Kati rated it liked it Shelves: sci-fiqueerin- englishaudiobooks, dw-tw. Story: 2 stars. Set directly after season 2. Jack, Gwen and Ianto are still dealing - or not dealing - with Owen and Tosh's deaths when Martha asks for their help. How they feel is shown in their short chats with her, Martha namely hasn't seen them since their friends' funeral. I especially liked her conversation with Jack. I also liked the tight bonds between the three main characters. The story's setting is quite intriguing: the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. But the creature itself I found it slightly lacking, to be honest. Narration: 5 stars. It's like following a real TW episode with your eyes closed. It's fantastic! John Barrowman has a beautiful voice! To sum it up: This would have been a pretty average episode Torchwood: Lost Souls TW but I liked that it showed us how the characters dealt with their tragedy. Very heavily based on recent events at the CERN institute in Switzerland, but with that familiar Torchwood twist we've come to love. Oh hay, real science to boot! Another bridge to Season 3, probably not a good Torchwood: Lost Souls to listen to this unless you know what happens at the end of season 2. I loved hearing the entire cast back again, sans, of course, two certain team members lost in the end of season 2. An excellent radio Torchwood: Lost Souls Jan 13, Josh rated it really liked it. I'm glad to see Martha back with the Torchwood gang. Loved the pace and the overall feel of this one. Torchwood: Lost Souls 12, Wren rated it it was amazing Shelves: lgbtqiasci-fi. I'm not usually an audio person, I don't even listen to talk radio, but this was truly entertaining. It still kept the good old Torchwood vibe, it was a bit dark, exciting, some sci fi techno babble, it had heart and it made me laugh. A great little snippet to see what the team got up to between season 2 and 3. It also showed a lot of the emotions everyone was dealing with after the loss of Tosh and Owen. Also the addition of Martha was wonderful, I love her. And they mentioned Lisa and showed t I'm not usually an audio person, I don't even listen to talk radio, but this was truly entertaining. And they mentioned Lisa and showed that Ianto is still grieving, it was fantastic. This was fantastic for Torchwood Torchwood: Lost Souls wanting more and more from our favourite characters. Feb 03, Mona Ammon rated it liked it Shelves: I have Torchwood: Lost Souls the show and do not recall this episide. The audio was performed by all the cast and read as if reading off a script. It was amusing enough. Mainly it just made me long for the show. Sep 18, Yvonne Alf added it. I loved this! Such great fun! The story was interesting and the character interaction was fantastic! I had to laugh out loud several times. It was great to have Martha in the story. All the actors did a terrific job. I read a few comments that Torchwood: Lost Souls came across a bit flat. I have listened to it twice now and I just don't hear it. I think he sounds like he always does, the only thing is Torchwood: Lost Souls you only have the voice with the radio dramas and can't get distracted by the visuals. That's maybe why it I loved this! That's maybe why it feels different. Ianto soon became integral to the group, though his attempts to shroud his past impacted them in a Torchwood: Lost Souls way. He later fell in love with Jack and became his romantic partner. Torchwood: Lost Souls, Ianto met an early demise as part of a mass murder instigated by the ambassador when it spread a deadly virus through Thames House. 2019 Gally Academic Track Friday, February 15, 2019 3:00-3:15 KEYNOTE “The Fandom Hierarchy: Women of Color’s Fight For Visibility In Fandom Spaces” Tai Gooden Women of Color (WoC) have been fervent Doctor Who fans for several decades. However, the fandom often reflects societal hierarchies upheld by White privilege that result in ignoring and diminishing WoC’s opinions, contributions, and legitimate concerns about issues in terms of representation. Additionally, WoC and non-binary (NB) people of color’s voices are not centered as often in journalism, podcasting, and media formats nor convention panels as much as their White counterparts. This noticeable disparity has led to many WoC, even those who are deemed “important” in fandom spaces, to encounter racism, sexism, and, depending on the individual, homophobia and transphobia in a place that is supposed to have open availability to everyone. I can attest to this experience as someone who has a somewhat heightened level of visibility in fandom as a pop culture/entertainment writer who extensively covers Doctor Who. This presentation will examine women of color in the Doctor Who fandom in terms of their interactions with non-POC fans and difficulties obtaining opportunities in media, online, and at conventions. The show’s representation of fandom and the necessity for equity versus equality will also be discussed to craft a better understanding of how to tackle this pervasive issue. Other actionable solutions to encourage intersectionality in the fandom will be discussed including privileged people listening to WoC and non- binary people’s concerns/suggestions, respectfully interacting with them online and in person, recognizing and utilizing their privilege to encourage more inclusivity, standing in solidarity with them on critical issues, and lending their support to WoC creatives.

(2017). “My” hero or epic fail? Torchwood as transnational telefantasy. Palabra Clave, 20(3), 722-762. DOI: 10.5294/pacla.2017.20.3.7 Abstract Telefantasy series Torchwood (2006–2011, multiple production partners) was industrially and paratextually positioned as being Welsh, despite its frequent status as an international co-production. When, for series 4 (sub- titled Miracle Day, much as the miniseries produced as series 3 was subti- tled Children of Earth), the production (and diegesis) moved primarily to the United States as a co-production between BBC Worldwide and Amer- ican premium cable broadcaster Starz, fan response was negative from the announcement, with the series being termed Americanised in popular and academic discourse. This study, drawn from my doctoral research, which interrogates all of these assumptions via textual, industrial/contextual and audience analysis focusing upon ideological, aesthetic and interpretations of national identity representation, focuses upon the interactions between fan cultural capital and national cultural capital and how those interactions impact others of the myriad of reasons why the (re)glocalisation failed. It finds that, in part due to the competing public service and commercial ide- ologies of the BBC, Torchwood was a glocalised text from the beginning, de- spite its positioning as Welsh, which then became glocalised again in series 4.

I wonder when someone will have the idea of producing a box set with a figure of every variant of Doctor Who: Cyberman Bust and Illustrated Book specifically for display…. Ive given up on Characters options and underground toys and whoever backs them completing the set now…. Saying that, it is fairly cheap. Ive got to say they can keep augmenting the cybermen as much as they like but they still dont look as good as the classic variations…. The old ones were best but the last design was ok. Cannot understand why change. The cybermen were just blend in my opinion. These new designs actually remind me of the classic series cybermen.
