Local Government (State) Award 2020 Example suggestions from employers: • Union Picnic Day – Remove the ability for non-unionists to ‘free-ride’ (i.e. by joining the union on or immediately prior to the picnic day). • Annual Leave – Allow for annual leave to be taken at half or double pay by agreement (this requires a change to the Annual Holidays Act 1944). • Bereavement Leave – Look at harmonising the definitions (if practicable). • Maternity Leave – Incorporate the preserved 2007 Award entitlement. • Workplace Change – Clarify that the required 28 days notice before implementation applies only in relation to major changes in organisation structure that are likely to have “significant effects” and/or result in a reduction in the size of the employer’s workforce.
