CV Summary

Name: Stéphane Dufour

e-mail: [email protected] Education: Postdoctoral fellow, University of Brunel, London (UK), 2006-2007 PhD in Physiology, (), 2005. MS in Physiology & Biomechanics, University of , (France), 2001. Bachelor’s Degree in Sport . University of Strasbourg (France), 2000.

Research Experience: His graduate research studies were primarily performed at the faculty of Sport Sciences in Strasbourg (France). His Masters project performed at the University of Lille (France) was focused on the effect of endurance training on the parameters of aerobic fitness in young runners, including the oxygen uptake kinetics. Then, he engaged in his doctoral thesis at the Department of Exercise and Functional Explorations under the direction of Professors Véronique Billat and Jean Lonsdorfer, at the Civil Hospital, University of Strasbourg (France). His PhD aimed at determining the role of mechanical (eccentric muscle work) and metabolic muscle stimulations (hypoxia training) on the acute and chronic muscle and cardiorespiratory responses. Subsequently, he travelled to Brunel University (UK) to work with Professor José Gonzalez-Alonso to perform his postdoctoral studies on the role of the erythrocyte in the regulation of skeletal muscle blood flow response to exercise. He currently still works in the area of eccentric muscle work as well as exercise and training under hypoxia with a special emphasis on aerobic performance capacity and especially skeletal muscle blood flow control. He has several publications in peer reviewed journals including Sports Med, Journal of Physiology, Journal of Applied Physiology, Medicine & in Sports & Exercise, etc. He has also co-authored textbook chapters on muscle mitochondrial function and skeletal muscle blood flow. He is currently leading the Deust Métiers de la Forme (accredited by the European Health and Fitness Association) and is involved in the “Training, Sport and Health” Masters degree at the Faculty of Sport Sciences at the University of Strasbourg (France).

Teaching Experience: He is a lecturer (2007-2014) for the Faculty of Sport Sciences at the University of Strasbourg (France) in Human Physiology, Anatomy and Biomechanics, as well as in Research methods with the first year doctoral students. He also teaches at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Strasbourg (France). In addition, he has been a guest speaker in a several seminars regarding eccentric muscle work, exercise and training in hypoxia, as well as in the physiology of anaerobic exercise and testing.
