In 2017, Valderrama led the ship for Augusta as the GreenJackets played their final season at Lake Olm- stead. The previous three seasons he managed in the Dominican Summer League. This year will mark his 12th season as a coach in the organization, as the former Giants outfielder served as a hitting coach for the summer team for six seasons prior to being Manager. The Venezuelan native was originally signed by San Francisco as a non-drafted free agent in 1995, playing 11 seasons with the organization through 2005. He saw action in seven Major League contests in 2003, going 1-for-7. He finished his play- ing career in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system, playing at the double-A level in 2006.
