2 | St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church · Westfield, IN November 25, 2012 Thirty-Third May 27, 2018 Sunday The Mostin Ordinary Holy Trinity Time

A NOTE FROM FATHER KEVIN Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

+ Pax et Bonum!

Welcome to St. Maria Goretti Parish on this the Feast of the Holy Trinity! Our Easter season ended last Sunday evening, and we did go back into Ordinary Time, but today, one week after Pentecost, we celebrate with the entire Catholic Church the Feast of the Holy Trinity. Today we remember that each one of us are invited into that very special unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, that calls us together and calls us to holiness! This is an amazing Feast Day! We give thanks to God for all that He has done for us, so that we can know and love Him! We do welcome all of our guests and visitors on this Memorial Day weekend. It is great to have you with us for Mass today. We especially welcome all of our brothers and sisters who are in town for sport’s events at Grand Park! Thanks for making the time to come pray with us at Mass!

We look forward to the arrival of our new priests. Father Mike McKinley will arrive on June 23rd. Fr. Mike has been serving at St. Alphonsus Parish in Zionsville. Fr. Derek Aaron will arrive on June 27th. Fr. Aaron’s assignment to St. Maria Goretti is only part-time, as he will also be serving as Assistant Vocation Director for our Diocese. Fr. Aaron has been serving at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Carmel. Both of these men are outstanding priests and I know you are going to really enjoy having them here at St. Maria Goretti.

In the meantime, we are going to modify our daily Mass schedule beginning this week. This week and for most of the month of June, we will drop the Monday 7:00 AM Mass, the Wednesday 8:00 AM Mass, and the Friday 7:00 AM. The modified schedule does still allow us to have Mass or a Communion service every day, even during some very busy days. As soon as our new priests arrive, we will go back to our full schedule. Also, with our School finishing up last Friday, please also be aware that the Tuesday 8:00 AM Mass will bump beginning this week to 5:30 PM in the Daily Mass Chapel. Please keep all these new daily Mass times in mind as we head into the summer.

Next Saturday, June 2nd, we are all looking forward to the Ordination to the Transitional Diaconate of our Seminarian Will Summerlin. This year our Diocese is ordaining two priests and two deacons, and they are doing all the ordinations at the same Mass. That Mass will begin at 11:00 AM next Saturday at our Cathedral in Lafayette. If you have never been to an Ordination Mass before, you’ve got to come join us! It is a very beautiful experience! We are all most proud of Will and look forward to celebrating with him next weekend. Deacon Will Summerlin will serve as Deacon and give his first homily at our 5:30 Sunday Evening Mass, next Sunday, June 3rd. All are invited for this joyous occasion! A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Please remember to RSVP through our St. Maria Goretti website for the reception. Please keep Will in your prayers this week as he makes his final preparations for ordination!

Vacation Bible Camp is coming up for our children this year June 11th thru the 15th. I mention this now because this Friday, June 1st is the cut-off for signing up. Each year I am so impressed by the creativity and imagination that goes into this weeklong event. And the kids have such a great time! If you haven’t signed up your son or daughter, don’t forget to do so by this Friday! Many teen volunteers are also still needed to help put the week on. If you could help out with this awesome opportunity, please call our Religious Education Office to volunteer!

It’s been great seeing so many of you come in as a family to get your picture taken for the new St. Maria Goretti Pictorial Directory. Photo sessions continue this week. Don’t forget your appointment! And if you haven’t signed up yet, what are you waiting for? Go online and schedule your time to have your family’s picture taken today! We want you and your family to be in our new Directory!

We have also received word this week that two graduating seniors from St. Maria Goretti have been awarded 2018 Diocesan scholarships. Augustus Bigot has won the 2018 Christopher Warner Scholarship. And Lucia Perez has won the Northcentral Indiana Hispanic Scholarship. Congratulations to both Auggie and Lucia! We are proud of both of you! Congratulations this week to all of our graduates from the Parish!

In Christ, Fr. Kevin

Welcome! For more than 22 years now, we have been building the Kingdom of God, not with a few people, but with everyone! Please accept my warmest welcome, and I pray you will come to know St. Maria Goretti as we all do—our Spiritual Home and Loving Community. We are glad you are here and look forward to meeting you!
