About Aloe Blacc Aloe Blacc is a singer/songwriter who crossed over from the indie scene in 2010 with his hit single "I Need A Dollar." He subsequently released his major label debut album, Lift Your Spirit, on XIX Recordings/Interscope Records where it debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and received a GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Album. The release followed Blacc's collaboration as vocalist and co-writer on well-known DJ/producer Avicii's 2013 track "Wake Me Up," a song that hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on Hot Dance Club Songs and Dance/Electronic Songs charts, as well as topping charts in more than 100 countries. Blacc's single "The Man" topped the charts and sold more than 3 million copies. Blacc spent the summer of 2014 on a U.S. tour with Bruno Mars in support of Lift Your Spirit and he made his acting debut in the James Brown biopic, Get On Up. In early 2016, Blacc released "Let The Games Begin," a song he wrote and produced for the film Race, a Focus Features biopic about Olympic hero Jesse Owens. Also at that time, he teamed with GRAMMY- winning artist/producer Zedd to co-write and record the smash single "Candyman," which was used by M&M's to commemorate their 75th anniversary. Blacc is now writing and recording for his next album release. About KING Twins Paris and Amber Strother and musical sister Anita Bias are KING. Their recent 2016 GRAMMY nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album marks a historical breakthrough, with their debut album, We Are King, being the only self- produced and self-released project in the category. Released on their own label, KING Creative, We Are King debuted at No, 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums and in the Top 10 on Billboard's Independent Albums and R&B Albums chart. The release also made numerous 2016 mid-year and year-end lists, including Rolling Stone, Time, NPR, Pitchfork, Noisey, Stereogum, Billboard, Spin, and Complex, among others. KING introduced themselves when they independently released their three-song EP, The Story, in 2011. The EP heralded much acclaim when word spread virally by such artists and tastemakers as Questlove, Erykah Badu, Gilles Peterson, Nile Rodgers, Janelle Monáe, Solange, and Prince, who was an enthusiastic early supporter and the trio's long-time mentor. In addition to touring and recording in the US and several countries abroad, KING have been highlighted by a wide array of collaborations, including co-writing on Robert Glasper's 2012 GRAMMY-winning album, Black Radio, which featured KING's collaboration "Move Love." In 2016 KING contributed to five tracks on Corinne Bailey Rae's critically acclaimed release, The Heart Speaks in Whispers, including co-producing and performing on her single (and televised "Conan" performance of) "Green Aphrodisiac," and they also contributed to the NAACP Image Award- nominated Miles Davis tribute album, Everything's Beautiful, with their original composition "Song For Selim." KING will tour in 2017, with dates to be announced. -more- 2017 GRAMMY In The Schools Live! • The Effects of Digital Music Distribution" (2012)
Southern Illinois University Carbondale OpenSIUC Research Papers Graduate School Spring 4-5-2012 The ffecE ts of Digital Music Distribution Rama A. Dechsakda [email protected] Follow this and additional works at: http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/gs_rp The er search paper was a study of how digital music distribution has affected the music industry by researching different views and aspects. I believe this topic was vital to research because it give us insight on were the music industry is headed in the future. Two main research questions proposed were; “How is digital music distribution affecting the music industry?” and “In what way does the piracy industry affect the digital music industry?” The methodology used for this research was performing case studies, researching prospective and retrospective data, and analyzing sales figures and graphs. Case studies were performed on one independent artist and two major artists whom changed the digital music industry in different ways. Another pair of case studies were performed on an independent label and a major label on how changes of the digital music industry effected their business model and how piracy effected those new business models as well. I analyzed sales figures and graphs of digital music sales and physical sales to show the differences in the formats. I researched prospective data on how consumers adjusted to the digital music advancements and how piracy industry has affected them. Last I concluded all the data found during this research to show that digital music distribution is growing and could possibly be the dominant format for obtaining music, and the battle with piracy will be an ongoing process that will be hard to end anytime soon.

  • Beth Hart Press Release
Beth Hart “Better Than Home” PRD 7451 BETH HART’S NEW ALBUM, BETTER THAN HOME, IS BETH-ER THAN EVER Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, Beth Hart, has never sounded better (musically and spiritually) than she does on her new album, Better Than Home. When she sings clocks stop, hearts dance and neck-hair tingles…it’s that compelling! A Planetmosh critic said, “I was just blown away by Beth’s voice!” and American Songwriter proclaimed, “Beth’s tough, throaty voice…she uses that powerful instrument to best effect on dramatic, arena filling ballads.” Beth’s incredible voice is what moved guitar legends Jeff Beck, Slash, Joe Bonamassa and Buddy Guy to perform with her on records and in concert. She reached national attention with the hit single, L.A. Song (Out Of This Town), the single reached #6 in the Billboard Modern AC chart and #7 in the Adult Top 40 chart; subsequent album, Bang Bang Boom Boom, made it to #3 in the Billboard Top Blues Album chart and shortly thereafter, Beth was nominated for a Blues Music Award. Album collaborations with Joe Bonamassa, Seesaw and Don’t Explain, made it to the top (#1 and #3) of the Billboard Blues Albums Chart, to #8 and #22 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums Chart and into the Billboard 200. International audiences fell in love with her and rewarded her with two #1 singles in Denmark from albums Leave The Light On and 37 Days (recorded live). Her greatest validation as one of the defining voices of our time, came when her tribute (alongside Jeff Beck) to Buddy Guy on The Kennedy Center Honors special, received one of the only 2 standing ovations of the evening, led by President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle.

  • Patty Griffin Is Among the Most Consequential Singer-Songwriters Of
Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together. Over the course of two decades, the 2x GRAMMY® Award winner – and 7x nominee – has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for “[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people…[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends.” 2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist’s GRAMMY® Award-winning 10th studio recording, PATTY GRIFFIN, on her own PGM Recordings label via Thirty Tigers. An extraordinary new chapter and one of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin’s remarkable two-decade career, the album collects songs written during and in the aftermath of profound personal crisis, several years in which she battled - and ultimately defeated - cancer just as a similar and equally insidious disease metastasized into the American body politic. As always, Griffin’s power lies in how, as writer Holly Gleason observed in Martha’s Vineyard Gazette, “her songs seem to freeze life and truth in amber.” Griffin’s first-ever eponymous LP, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard’s “Independent Albums” chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim – and later, a prestigious GRAMMY® Award for “Best Folk Album,” Griffin’s first win and second consecutive nomination in that category following 2015’s SERVANT OF LOVE. “A master class in vivid, empathetic roots music that’s both about taking responsibility for the choices we’ve made and surrendering to those made for us,” raved Entertainment Weekly.
