The "Regis" school banner, which has adorned the outside facade of the 84th Street entrance of the building and proclaimed the name of our beloved school to the world, is up for auction. Much like our sons, she has endured faithfully the harsh winter snows and winds, blistering city sun, and traffic exhausts. It is now time for her to "graduate" to a more comfortable setting. Picture this banner on the wall in a college dorm room, or perhaps at your home in a family room or professionally framed for an office, or, dream gift, passed along to another son or grandson. In reality, this began long before any of that. It started with a poor soul named Fred Merkle, in the year 1908 -- the last time the Chicago Cubs won a World Series. On Wednesday night, the 2016 Cubs put an end date on that cursed year by winning the franchise's first World Series in 108 years, beating the Cleveland Indians in extra innings in Game 7, 8-7. The reasons the Cubs didn't win it all for so long aren't easy to distill in a work less than book length. There are a few wide-umbrella factors that one can easily point to. With the 2016 World Series over after a stunning comeback from Chicago's North Siders, there's a good reason to revisit those factors. A very good reason in fact: They no longer exist. CSR is a topic with extensive research in regards to traditional corporations; yet, little has been conducted in relation to the professional sports industry. Although most researchers and professionals have accepted CSR has a necessary component in evaluating a firm‟s performance, there is a great deal of variation in how it should be applied and by whom. Professional sports franchises are particularly interesting, because unlike most corporations, their financial success depends almost entirely on community support for the team. This paper employs a mixed-methods approach for examining CSR through the lens of the professional sports industry. The study explores how three professional sports leagues, the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Football Association (NFL), and Major League Baseball (MLB), engage in CSR activities and evaluates the factors that influence their involvement. The play-by-play announcer for Knicks games on MSG Network and for the League’s most prominent national games on ESPN/ABC, Breen has become the voice most NBA fans connote with the League. He’s been calling NBA games since 1992 when he started with MSG Network. He works these days with Hall of Famer Clyde Frazier on MSG, and he runs a three-man booth with Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy for the ESPN/ABC telecasts. His voice is unmistakable, and his smooth delivery flows perfectly with the sport he calls for a living.
