FRIDAY NIGHTS ARE FUN: The Florida Marlins Community Foundation hosts a key fundraiser every Friday night during Marlins home games at the Broward Health Community Corner, section 149. Fans can check out the raffle, silent auction, grab bags, mystery table and other special features. The excitement starts when the gates open at 5:30 and continues until the final out of the third inning. WOMEN OF TOMORROW CHECK PRESENTATION: The Florida Marlins Community Foundation donated $5,000 for a Women of Tomorrow Scholarship. Basheba “Abby” Brown, the 2008 scholarship recipient, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on August 29th. Florida Marlins Community Foundation employees and Women of Tomorrow mentors Nancy Olson and Kelly Schnackenberg will present the check to “Abby.” Joining them will be Bianca Erickson, Executive Director of Women of Tomorrow; Judge Linda Pratt, “Abby’s” school mentor and Ellen Williams, Stranahan High School schools coordinator. “Abby” also received a nursing scholarship form Broward Health and is enrolled at Broward College. ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT SEATS: Forget worrying about grabbing dinner before you come to the game, now you can eat and drink all you want for one low price with the Marlins new All-You-Can-Eat Seats! But the acclamations and pressures are burdensome and the invented savior fails to fulfill the prospects once imagined by the public. He is cast aside, disregarded as a symbol of failure or one deserving of pity. It’s the quintessential tragedy of a fallen hero. The protagonist of this report is Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who enjoyed a phenomenal rookie season before it ended abruptly due to a severe elbow injury.

We use data envelopment analysis (DEA) based on two inputs (i.e., innings pitched [IPs] and per pitched innings) and three outputs (fielding independent pitching, earned run average [ERA], and skill-interactive ERA) to evaluate the performance of the 30 MLB teams’ starting pitchers with IPs greater than 200 in each single season (2008 to 2014, regular season only). We used the CCR models to calculate the overall efficiency, scale efficiency, technical efficiency, efficiency value, and the slack analysis to measure a pitcher’s performance in each single season. The results showed that 4, 3, 4, 3, 5, 3, and 5 pitches reached overall efficiency each year, from 2008 to 2014 (regular season). By analyzing the results and computing performance indexes and benchmarks for each starting pitcher, we determine the true value of each player to help baseball teams select highly indexed players and maximize player efficiency.
