Iowa won the 2008 Big Ten Championships with 127.0 points while Minnesota fin- ished runner-up with 112.5 points. USA TODAY/InterMat/NWCA Poll - Feb. 24 X Wisconsin is ranked fifth in InterMat’s Tournament Strength Rankings that came out Feb. 25. Rank Team 1 Iowa* 2 Cornell LAST TIME OUT 3 Iowa State* X Wisconsin closed out its 2008-09 dual campaign with a 24-18 loss at home against 4 Nebraska No. 6 Ohio State. The Badgers won four bouts, including an upset at 165 lbs. The Badgers 5 Missouri 6 Ohio State* also said goodbye to nine seniors in the UW Field House finale, including starters Zach 7 Lehigh Tanelli, Dallas Herbst and Kyle Massey. 8 Illinois* X True freshman Andrew Howe registered an upset at 165 lbs. by knocking off then- 9 Boise State* No. 2 Colt Sponseller, 3-2. Howe, who was ranked No. 8 at the time, has fared well against 10 Central Michigan wrestlers ranked No. 2 in the country and is now 3-1 against those ranked No. 2. His wins 11 Oklahoma State came against Moza Fay from Northern Iowa, Ryan Morningstar from Iowa and Sponseller. 12 Minnesota* Howe also lost to Fay at Midlands. 13 Oklahoma 14 Edinboro X With the win, Howe ended his freshman regular season with a perfect 13-0 dual mark 15 Virginia Tech (including 8-0 in Big Ten duals) and 22-4 overall. Howe also rides an 11-match winning 16 Wisconsin streak into Big Tens, his last loss coming against Fay on Dec. 30, 2008. 17 Old Dominion X Seniors Dallas Herbst and Kyle Massey ended their final regular season on high 18 Michigan notes with wins against the Buckeyes. It was fitting that Herbst won his final bout at 19 Northwestern* home in the form of a pin. Herbst, who set the UW record for career pins this season, 20 Kent State tallied his 55th career pin by sticking Jason Cook in 2:02. Herbst also has a 10-match 21 Indiana* winning streak coming into Big Tens, his last loss coming against Boise State’s Brent 22 Northern Iowa* 23 Hofstra Chriswell on Jan. 10. 24 Penn X Massey also went out with a win by defeating OSU’s Corey Morrison, 8-1. RV: American, Penn State* X Junior Kyle Ruschell picked up his sixth pin of the season, and second in as many matches, by sticking OSU’s Owen Schaefer in the final bout of the afternoon. Ruschell has W.I.N. Magazine Poll - Feb. 23 a six-match winning streak heading into Big Tens. As a freshman, Ruschell placed second Rank Team at Big Tens at 141 lbs. 1 Iowa* X Senior Zach Tanelli did not wrestle against Ohio State but he rides a 16-match 2 Cornell winning streak into Big Tens. He finished his senior year with a 23-3 overall, 15-1 dual 3 Iowa State* record. He has not lost since Dec. 13, 2008 when he was pinned by Northern Iowa’s Trent 4 Nebraska Washington. That marked the end of a three-match losing streak for Tanelli.
