School News in Brief Hardenhuish School Headlines I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of our community for their support as I begin my new role. It has been a busy first half term of the 2016-2017 academic year. The GCSE and A Level results days in August started the year well (although marking the end of their time at Hardenhuish for many) and there was much to celebrate. The Year 11 achieved extremely well and their well-deserved results have enabled them to join our 6th Form or move on to college, the large majority accessing courses of their first choice. I look forward to personally congratulating them at our Year 11 Governors’ Awards evening in November. Year 13 also achieved fantastic results and the recent awards evening enabled us to celebrate with them and their parents whilst wishing them well in their next steps. Year 7 have made a really positive start and it has been a pleasure to go in to their lessons and see them engaging fully in their learning, hear about their attendance at so many extra- curricular opportunities and see the photographs of their adventures at Liddington. The rest of the school have settled well in to term and the I was delighted to hear that our School had been progress reports issued over the next couple of weeks will enable reaccredited with the International School Award at the end of us to focus all our efforts on ensuring that they continue to thrive September, as this recognises the hard work of the pupils and and make good progress at Hardenhuish. staff in establishing and maintaining our links with schools in a I have welcomed a number of visitors, including Michelle variety of countries and ensuring that our curriculum reflects the Donelan, our local MP (pictured). aim for our learners to develop as global citizens. • Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the Differences Between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas
Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the differences between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas This document should be read in conjunction with the School Places Strategy 2017 – 2022 and provides an explanation of the differences between the Wiltshire Community Areas served by the Area Boards and the School Planning Areas. The Strategy is primarily a school place planning tool which, by necessity, is written from the perspective of the School Planning Areas. A School Planning Area (SPA) is defined as the area(s) served by a Secondary School and therefore includes all primary schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into that secondary school. As these areas can differ from the community areas, this addendum is a reference tool to aid interested parties from the Community Area/Area Board to define which SPA includes the schools covered by their Community Area. It is therefore written from the Community Area standpoint. Amesbury The Amesbury Community Area and Area Board covers Amesbury town and surrounding parishes of Tilshead, Orcheston, Shrewton, Figheldean, Netheravon, Enford, Durrington (including Larkhill), Milston, Bulford, Cholderton, Wilsford & Lake, The Woodfords and Great Durnford. It encompasses the secondary schools The Stonehenge School in Amesbury and Avon Valley College in Durrington and includes primary schools which feed into secondary provision in the Community Areas of Durrington, Lavington and Salisbury. However, the School Planning Area (SPA) is based on the area(s) served by the Secondary Schools and covers schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into either The Stonehenge School in Amesbury or Avon Valley College in Durrington.

  • Area Board Project
Reference No Log No Cllr: 001/10 For Office Use Area Board Project 1. What is the project? Careers Guidance A project to build upon the success of the mentoring programme at Devizes School including improving provision for careers guidance The Devizes area board are asked to support the project and provide 50% of the funding (£2,500). The other 50% will be provided by Devizes School 2. Background Links between business and Devizes School were strengthened through the introduction of a mentoring scheme in 2012. This proved to be successful and the area board piloted in 2013 the employment of a consultant to focus upon improving this further. During 2014, this project has resulted in improved careers guidance, a stronger focus on apprenticeships and most importantly helping to secure the future of students, preparing them for entering the world of work. The number of businesses taking part has greatly increased. A successful careers fair was held at the school and this was well attended by businesses and students. This model’s success has been recognised outside the Devizes area and other community areas are now looking to replicate it. 3. Proposal It is proposed that Margaret Bryant (current consultant) who has good links with Devizes School and local businesses is hired to continue this important work and build upon this success. 4. Where is the project taking place? Devizes School. 5. When will the project take place? 1 Funding is currently available up until the end of March 2015. This will allow the project to be continued for another year 6.

Welcome back! We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and Healthy 2018. We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and a chance to relax! Last term was certainly a busy one. Our first PLT meeting was a lovely opportunity to catch up and welcome our new recruits as well as saying farewell to a few of our longest standing PLTs – Sian Northern-Evans, Fiona Watkins and Rebecca Hagley. Their support and enthusiasm over the years has been fantastic and they will be sorely missed. We wish them well in their new roles. Looking back through the last couple of terms, it has certainly been a busy start to the year with two football festivals, two multi-skills festivals, two Real PE courses, a Young Officials course, a Young Ambassador Conference and of course the fabulous and festive Christmas Cross-country event. We had a record breaking number of runners this year just shy of 600! We are always pleased to see so many young people involved in these events and appreciate all the support the schools give in enabling their children to take part.

  • Congratulations Corsham Primary!
www.corshamprimary.co.uk July 2013 2nd Edition Despite an initially chilly and grey term, the sun has been shining at Corsham Primary throughout this busy summer term; the children and staff have had a great time! We will shortly be saying goodbye to our wonderful year six children who have given us so much joy over the years. We wish them all well as they move on to their new secondary schools. At this time of year we will also be saying goodbye and hello to old and new staff members and are looking forward to welcoming our new Foundation Stage pupils in September. We hope to hear the “patter of tiny feet” in the Ryan household very shortly and wish Miss Townsend, Miss Book and Miss Pankhurst much happiness for their forthcoming marriages. We are also saying good-bye and good luck to Mrs Baines who secured a position as a radiographer at RUH in Bath. I would like to thank Andrea for all the special things she has done for the pupils who attend the Sunshine Room and Learning Den. We are all going to miss her especially Olive and Timmy the greyhounds who regularly read with the children. Congratulations Corsham Primary! We are proud and delighted to inform parents and carers that Corsham Primary has achieved an Outstanding judgement following our recent inspection. The report was published on the Ofsted website on 19 July. We are particularly pleased to have received this very special news as the new Ofsted framework, which came into force in September 2012, has deliberately set the bar for an outstanding judgement even higher than before.

Proposal to join the Athelstan Trust as part of a Multi Academy Trust Consultation Consultation for all stakeholders learners, staff, parents/carers, community Sir William Romney’s School Key Dates: Consultation starts: 30th September 2019 Consultation ends: 4th November 2019 Deadline for support, views, questions and concerns: Stakeholder/Parent Information Evenings: 1. Engagement Forum: Wednesday 9th October (during Year 8 and 9 Information Evening) 2. Engagement Event: Wednesday 21st October at 6pm in the Main Hall 1 Frequently Asked Questions What is an Academy? An academy is an independent state school that is run by an Academy Trust, a legal body operating similarly to a charity. Whilst the academy is funded directly by the Government, it is no longer run by the Local Authority. This means that academies have more freedom and control over the school curriculum, hours, and term dates. The Academy Trust enters into an agreement with the Secretary of State for Education that sets out its responsibilities and accountabilities for the effective running of the academy. What is a Multi-Academy Trust? (MAT) A Multi-Academy Trust is a legal entity that governs a group of schools through a single set of trustees. It is set up by a group of schools, usually a local collaboration, that share a common ethos and vision. A MAT is accountable for all academies within the group. Academies are answerable to the Trustees and to the Department for Education (DfE) rather than to the Local Authority. A MAT is a charitable company, limited by guarantee. This means that it is registered at Companies House.
