Custom Hamilton Watch Featured in Christopher Nolan’S New Sci Fi Action Spectacle Tenet, Coming Soon to Theaters CUSTOM HAMILTON WATCH FEATURED IN CHRISTOPHER NOLAN’S NEW SCI FI ACTION SPECTACLE TENET, COMING SOON TO THEATERS IMAGINED BY FILMMAKERS, PRODUCED BY ENGINEERS Hamilton designers and engineers, in collaboration with the design team from Christopher Nolan’s new film, TENET, produced a custom-made watch with unique features that only Hamilton was trusted to bring to life. June 17, 2020 - A favorite of filmmakers for decades, Hamilton timepieces have played an integral role in films and inspired audiences. “The Murph” we created for Christopher Nolan’s hit Interstellar became a fan favorite, and a clock we designed for Stanley Kubrick’s iconic film 2001: A Space Odyssey influenced the invention of the world’s first digital watch. Our latest Hollywood partnership – and our biggest one yet – involved extensive collaboration between our design team and the production design team behind Christopher Nolan’s latest film TENET, coming soon to theaters. Initial conversations revealed that the film required a watch with features that do not currently exist in a commercially available Hamilton watch. Accepting the challenge, we committed to merging creativity with craftsmanship to produce this key movie prop. The 18-month preparation included technical development, testing and production at the Swatch Group’s lab in Switzerland where our engineers found a way to combine the needed technology with the display on the dial of our Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO. To meet filming needs, we produced dozens of the final prop watch and Hamilton watchmakers were on the movie set to offer support with the watch’s unique functions. BeLOWZERO SPECIAL EDITION For Hamilton, the creative process didn’t stop there. Our Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO served as the base for the wristwatch featured in TENET, but since the watch was only made for the film, we decided to celebrate the collaboration with an inspired-by special edition. Cased in lightweight titanium, this special edition features a blue or red-tipped second hand as a reference to key colors in the movie. Each color version will be limited to 888 pieces, the number chosen as a nod to the movie title, which is also a palindrome, something that reads the same backwards and forwards. Special packaging created by TENET production designer Nathan Crowley features colors inspired by design elements in the film. “I’m always impressed by Hamilton’s dedication to excellence and their willingness to think outside the box to create timepieces that do so much more than tell time,” says Nathan Crowley. “This project was one of the most challenging and exciting collaborations I’ve been a part of,” says Hamilton CEO Sylvain Dolla. “It was truly a partnership of creativity that transformed ideas into a reality we’ll get to see on movie screens around the world.” 1 | Page ABOUT TENET John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle TENET. Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion. The international cast also includes Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, with Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh. Christopher Nolan directed TENET from his own screenplay. The film is produced by Emma Thomas and Nolan, with Thomas Hayslip serving as executive producer. The behind-the-scenes creative team included director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema, production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Jennifer Lame, costume designer Jeffrey Kurland, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson, and special effects supervisor Scott Fisher. The score is composed by Ludwig Göransson. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing TENET worldwide and has slated the film for a July 31, 2020 release. • THE “TENET” THEORY Written by Esmarelda Villalobos
THE “TENET” THEORY Written by Esmarelda VillaLobos WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. “Tenet” begins with an attack on the arts. It is the first event in the film, right out of the gate, that sets the tone for the rest of the movie. In fact, in this film there are multiple attacks on art, but in the first few minutes of this topsy-turvy ride, we as the audience witness some kind of terrorist attack that occurs during the preparations for an orchestral performance somewhere in Russia, which, given the number of public shootings and horrific terrorist attacks that have plagued the world throughout the last decade, is not that far of a stretch from the truth. The first line of the film is “Time to wake up the Americans” to which we are now introduced to John David Washington’s character as The Protagonist. Through a series of what seems to be party-switching and criss-crossery (if that’s even a word), John David Washington is eventually caught. While under capture and interrogation, The Protagonist decides to sacrifice his own life for the good of the cause and swallow a cyanide pill given to him by the CIA. Cut to black. When we as the audience come back, John David Washington is in a hospital bed on a very large ship, somewhere beyond the sea. Now, on first viewing if you are to watch this film, you believe everything that is said – the cyanide pill is a fake, his taking it was a test to see if he would sacrifice himself in order to avoid torture and potentially give up secrets – which he did.

[email protected] Szerkesztésért felelős személy: Chen Xin Kiadásért felelős személy: Huang Ping china-cee.eu 2017/01 The forthcoming ‘Tenet’ and the Dannebrog: Estonia is making plenty of international headlines From all possible sides, this particular briefing will not be precisely on the Estonian society-related politico-economic concerns. However, the society’s direct involvement into the processes, which the briefing will highlight, is undeniable. Both Hollywood and history, fictional characters and real heroes, the dazzling creativity of the non-existence and the calm philosophy of the past – all of these were mixed and matched in Estonia, during the long- awaited June 2019. Speculatively speaking, when the name of Christopher Nolan1 would be mentioned in Estonia before spring this year, the general public would not be exhibiting plenty of knowledge on what this British movie director had done by then and, more importantly for the context, what he had in mind regarding some of his immediate future plans. It would be irrespectively of the famous director’s ten major products, which were associated with 34 Oscar nominations, including 10 wins. In a truly dramatic way, the situation has substantially changed from May 2019. It was reported that “Hollywood director Christopher Nolan […] is to commence filming on a movie in Tallinn [in June], bringing a diverse range of globally famous stars to the Estonian capital, and no doubt a huge boost to tourism and business with it”2.

1 Tori Rosenthal Dr. Olsen T/RS 228 – Parables in Pop Culture May 22, 2020 BlacKkKlansman: Language is Power As the first African American director to become a household name in Hollywood, critically acclaimed U.S. filmmaker Spike Lee has never been one to shy away from bold character personas, unique camera angles, and groundbreaking content, and his iconic film BlacKkKlansman (2018) is no exception. A passionate supporter of black art and emancipation, Lee’s films often comment on the state of ‘white America’ past and present, telling stories of black Americans that were previously little heard in Hollywood films and cultivating a public persona that is known well beyond the film world for his outspoken attitudes surrounding racial politics. With a star-studded cast and a comedic approach to such complex material, the underlying message in BlacKkKlansman conveys to the audience the truth behind Ron Stallworth’s extraordinary story and tackles controversial topics such as racism, white supremacy, the politics of policework and radical activism. Set in the 1970s in Colorado Springs and based off the 2014 memoir Black Klansmen by Ron Stallworth, BlacKkKlansman follows the journey of the first African-American detective (John David Washington) in the city's police department as he sets out to infiltrate and expose the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. He poses as a white racist on the phone using his real name while his secretively Jewish partner Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver) poses for him in real life in order to become part of the organization. Stallworth’s two-man persona and undercover 2 police work allow the pair to successfully infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan, going so far as rising up in the chapter by rubbing elbows with Grand Wizard David Duke (Topher Grace) and discovering information on several underground military connections within the KKK.

  • John David Washington: the Photo Shoot and Interview for L'uomo
Leggi l'articolo su beautynews John David Washington: the photo shoot and interview for L'Uomo Raised in a family of actors, preachers, musicians and intellectuals, John David Washington has a distinctive cadence that resonates with a strong sense of belonging, like a coiled spring of physical and mental energy. Maybe it’s because he graduated from Morehouse College, the private university of the African-American intelligentsia where Reverend Martin Luther King studied after the war. Or perhaps it was the role Spike Lee gave him in BlacKkKlansman (2018), the true story of a police officer who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan. He prepared for that part by channelling his cultural roots. “For months I only listened to ’70s music. I went to bed with Soul Train in my ears and watched Super Fly over and over. And I often phoned my uncles, Vietnam veterans, to understand what it meant to be men, and black, at that time in American history.” Having grown up in the Toluca Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles with his father Denzel Washington (who was Spike Lee’s Malcolm X) and his mother Pauletta Pearson (an actress and pianist), John David is now a modest 36-year-old gentleman. “My mother taught me to love,” he says on the phone from LA, where he spent lockdown with his parents and three younger siblings. “My father taught me to hunt,” but not in the sense of killing animals, he explains. “Instead, it’s about being relentlessly scientific about your approach to life and work. It’s about developing a system and putting in the hours, because nobody’s going to hand you anything – you have to get it yourself.

  • CELEBRATING FORTY YEARS of FILMS WORTH TALKING ABOUT How Do We Fit It All In?!
7 SEP 18 4 OCT 18 1 | 7 SEP 18 - 4 OCT 18 88 LOTHIAN ROAD | FILMHOUSECINEMA.COM CELEBRATING FORTY YEARS OF FILMS WORTH TALKING ABOUT How do we fit it all in?! Here at Filmhouse, across the year, we play host to a dizzying array of film festivals (at last count there were in excess of thirty of them!) – some are only a few shows, some are as long as two weeks, all are an essential part of the overall cinematic offering that is Filmhouse. The fact is, we couldn’t run these festivals ourselves – we just don’t have the resource to watch and source all the films these festivals bring us – and so are entirely reliant on the skill and enthusiasm of the programmers and organisers of them. But please don’t imagine we’ve given over curatorial control lightly, for we take the quality of what hits our screen very seriously indeed. Why, if they don’t continually hit the standards we set ourselves… well… they’re out! I mention these ‘partner’ festivals now because September traditionally sees the beginning of a period in which many of them take place, kicking off with one of my favourites (don’t tell any of the others!), Take One Action, the festival of active citizenship (my words, not theirs), and swiftly followed (in October) by the Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival, Scotland Loves Anime, Edinburgh Short Film Festival, Africa in Motion and (in November) French Film Festival UK… to name but a few. It’s a busy time for sure but an exciting one, what with variety being the spice of life and everything.
