    GREATER READING: A CALL TO ACTION To: The Greater Reading Community The Initiative for a Competitive Greater Reading (ICGR) was started by several local business leaders in response to a challenge – and a commitment of support – by local elected political leaders. These early initiators recognized and stated that they wanted something differ- ent, something real, and something that would make an impact toward creating an exciting and vibrant future for the Greater Reading region. Our approach was based on a simple principle – quality of life begins with a healthy economy. Put more simply, we needed to provide jobs for our residents. And, given our recent history of losing so many jobs, this required us to begin to think about doing some things differently. The good news is that we found a widespread interest in bringing about the necessary changes. What we found lacking initially, at least, was the necessary consensus on priorities. The Initiative for a Competitive Greater Reading set about to change this. Our region is unique in many ways. Sure, we have our problems and challenges. Who doesn’t? But we took account of these, dealt with them and focused most of our efforts on a very real set of opportunities. This we called “dealing with reality”. And “dealing with reality” implies, first, that we recognize things as they actually are, not as we wish they might be or as we might remember them. Among today’s realities, we all need to accept and come to terms with the following: - The region cannot be successful without a vibrant urban core.

    1 Circle Will Feature Original Programming Centered Around

    CIRCLE LAUNCHES ON JANUARY 1 WITH 16 ORIGINAL SHOWS New Network To Debut In More Than 50 Percent of U.S. TV Households Planned Companion OTT (Over-The-Top) Premium Entertainment Service Set to Launch in Late Spring 2020 NASHVILLE, Tenn., December 11, 2019 – Circle, a new country music and lifestyle television network launching January 1, 2020, announced 16 original shows and two major distribution partnerships that will broadcast Circle in markets covering more than 50 percent of U.S. TV households. Circle will be available on Gray Television stations across 56 markets throughout the country as well as on stations in markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Tampa and Detroit through a separate distribution agreement with CBS Television Stations. “We are excited to launch the network with a fantastic slate of new, original programming that is true to Circle’s core mission,” said Drew Reifenberger, general manager of Circle Media. “These 16 shows are just the start of how we intend to bring fans closer to the artists they love, with more than a dozen additional shows in various stages of production and development. Serving as the regular drumbeat of Circle will be our broadcasts of each week’s live Grand Ole Opry performances.” Circle will feature original programming centered around artists and their music; hobbies; outdoor and offstage adventures; food; family; and friends. Circle will also offer entertainment news, documentaries and movies along with licensed programming and archival content. Original programs at launch include: 1. Opry Live: Beginning in February, Opry Live is a compilation of new live-recorded Grand Ole Opry performances that will be released each week.

Martin Michael Jackson produced art in its most total sense. Throughout his forty-year career Jackson merged art forms, melded genres and styles, and promoted an ethos of unity in his work. Jackson’s mastery of combined song and dance is generally acknowledged as the hallmark of his performance. Scholars have not- ed Jackson’s place in the lengthy soul tradition of enmeshed movement and mu- sic (Mercer 39; Neal 2012) with musicologist Jacqueline Warwick describing Jackson as “embodied musicality” (Warwick 249). In addition, the Enabling Statute charged SFFC with the obligation to assure the compliance by The Scripps Research Institute (“TSRI”) with the Enabling Statute and the agreement between SFFC and TSRI (the “Operating and Funding Agreement”). The Enabling Statute provides that SFFC shall prepare or obtain certain reports, audits, and evaluations of TSRI’s compliance with the performance expectations and disbursement conditions contained in the Enabling Statute. As such, SFFC is submitting this Annual Report to the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House, as required by the Enabling Statute to be submitted by December 1 of each year. This SFFC Annual Report addresses the activities and outcomes of SFFC and Scripps Florida (“SF”) for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2020 (“Fiscal 2020”). The Scripps Florida Annual Report addressed the activities and outcomes of Scripps Florida for the year ended June 30, 2020, and the information in the Scripps Florida Annual Report was informally updated for this SFFC Annual Report.
