Its official motto is L'Étoile du Nord (French: Star of the North). Minnesota is the 12th largest in area and the 21st most populous of the U.S. States; nearly 60 percent of its residents live in the Minneapolis –Saint Paul metropolitan area (known as the "Twin Cities"), the center of transportation, business, Flag Seal industry, education, and government and home to an internationally known arts community.     2016 U.S. Women’s Football Leagues Addendum New Mexico Adult Football League – Women’s Division (NMAFL-W) – 2015 Season The NMAFL-W launched in 2015 with five teams in New Mexico. The Alamogordo Aztecs failed to complete the season, while the Amarillo Lady Punishers joined the league late and absorbed four forfeit losses before even getting out of the gate. But the Lady Punishers were formidable once they got started, upsetting the previously undefeated Roswell Destroyers in the playoffs to make it to the first NMAFL-W title game. That opened the door for the Santa Fe Dukes to swoop in and capture the NMAFL-W championship at the conclusion of the league’s first season. I said this daily during the 2009 Great Minnesota Get-Together to our hard-working staff and the dedicated members of our board of managers. It was clear during the first days of the fair that something very amazing was going on, and that's saying a lot for an institution that's provided more than 150 years of"amazing." The '09 State Fair's program of agriculture, education, entertainment and commerce was current, relevant and. as vibrant as ever. The historic State Fairgrounds never looked better and, as a bonus, the 12-day exposition was blessed with great weather. Minnesotans responded in a big way. Ifyou ask 100 people why they attend the State Fair, you will get many different answers. Sometimes, though, the best answers come from far away. A travel writer from Japan wrote that he came to the Minnesota State Fair "because I wanted to see and touch real life and culture in America." That's the essence of the fair experience: It's real. It's life and it's culture and unlike most of today's digitized virtual reality, you can touch it. For Minnesotans, our problems are left outside the gates as we reconnect with each other in a colossal celebration of all that is good about our state. The State Fair inspires and renews us unlike anything else.

However, because the National Football League (NFL) was not yet popular across the country, these issues had little effect on the broader culture. In the second half of the century, the NFL became the most popular consumer sport in the country. Conflicts between labor and capital, between men and women, between races and ethnicities, and between groups associated with the broader counterculture and liberation movements were brought by political advocates into the sport. Nonetheless, throughout this same time, the league had political priorities of its own and endorsed certain political issues while not engaging others. In this dissertation, I utilize a “multiple histories” approach to analyze the effect of social movements on the NFL and demonstrate the influence of political football in American culture.
