PREPARATIVI IN DIRITTURA D’ARRIVO A LA MADDALENA PER IL LOUIS VUITTON TROPHY. DOMANI MATTINA ARRIVANO I TEAM La Maddalena (OT), 16 maggio 2010_ Nonostante il freddo insolito per la stagione e il forte vento (che ieri ha toccato punte di 45 nodi), gli organizzatori del Louis Vuitton Trophy stanno mettendo a punto gli ultimi preparativi per completare le infrastrutture in vista dell’inizio delle regate. Mascalzone Latino Audi Team dello skipper e timoniere Gavin Brady si è allenato gran parte della settimana insieme a BMW ORACLE Racing (skipper e timoniere James Spithill), che tornerà al Louis Vuitton Trophy come Defender della Coppa America. Gran parte degli altri team, invece, hanno appena trascorso una settimana di regate nel Circuito TP52 a Cascais in Portogallo. Sono esattamente 6 i team attesi a La Maddalena al loro rientro da Cascais: All4One, Artemis, Emirates Team New Zealand, Luna Rossa, Synergy e TeamOrigin. I velisti arriveranno con un volo charter speciale domani mattina all’aeroporto di Olbia. Completano la lista dei partecipanti Azzurra e Team Aleph. E’ la prima volta che il Defender della Coppa America incontrerà quelli che per la maggior parte saranno i suoi prossimi Challenger nella Coppa n. 34. Si tratta quindi di una grande preview di quella che potrebbe essere la Coppa America del futuro. I velisti troveranno impressionanti le strutture del Louis Vuitton Trophy La Maddalena. Il Porto Arsenale, che era stato realizzato per ospitare il mancato G8 l’anno scorso, è una struttura di altissimo livello, perfetta per ospitare i 10 team, i media di tutto il mondo (sono attesi circa 200 giornalisti), gli sponsor e tutti i fan di vela che verranno alla Maddalena nelle prossime tre settimane. “E’ incredibile, non è vero?” è il commento di uno dei primi manager dei team arrivati qua, Ian Stewart di Emirates Team New Zealand, durante il primo sopralluogo all’interno della venue dell’ex-Arsenale. In mare, lo sfondo delle coste della Sardegna lascia senza fiato e il campo di regata metterà a dura prova le abilità degli equipaggi con condizioni meteo variabili. La prima giornata ufficiale di allenamento sarà martedì 18 e fino a giovedì. Le previsioni meteo sono improntate ad un miglioramento. Les dernières installations se mettent en place, les bateaux sont en cours de mise à niveau et préparés pour les épreuves, tandis que quelques équipes se sont entraînées la semaine dernière sur des voiliers de l'ACC pour être prêtes le 7 novembre, premier jour de la course. À Valence, site de la dernière America's Cup, où plusieurs équipes disposent toujours d'une base opérationnelle, les quatre bateaux de l'ACC qui seront utilisés à Nice ont été remis en ordre de marche pour les régates de novembre. This is not a sport for the faint hearted. It is not a quest to take lightly or on a whim. It is a fight between sailors from yacht clubs all over the world that desperately want the same thing: get their hands on the Cup. The prestige for the winner has more value than any other sporting achievement. It’s winning the invincible and doing the impossible that attracts sailors, dreamers and millionaires, but the victory is not easy, and most of the time it doesn’t ever happen. The only way to win is to continuously participate, continuously return time and time again with the conviction that you can do it. Hesitating after the first attempt is not part of the rules of the game. You need extraordinary people with ferocious motivation, lots of experience and attention to details and unconditional dedication.

Questo non è uno sport per deboli di cuore. Non è impresa da prendere alla leggera o per capriccio. É una lotta tra velisti di Yacht Club sparsi nel mondo che vogliono disperatamente la stessa cosa: mettere le mani sulla Coppa. Il prestigio per il vincitore vale più di qualsiasi altro riconoscimento sportivo. É proprio vincere l’invincibile e fare l’impossibile che affascina uomini di mare, sognatori e miliardari. Ma la vittoria non arriva facilmente. Anzi, il più delle volte non arriva affatto. L’unico modo per vincere è continuare a partecipare, continuare a tornare, una volta dopo l’altra, con l’intimo convincimento di potercela fare. Esitare dopo il primo tentativo non fa parte delle regole del gioco. Ci vogliono persone straordinarie, con una motivazione ferrea, grande esperienza, attenzione per i particolari e dedizione incondizionata.
