The stories are utter dross and have little or nothing Lovecraftian about them. Read more Good product, great service. Most of these stories had nothing to do with Lovecraft's writings. The Mammoth Book of Cthulhu: New Lovecraftian Fiction, a couple of them were entertaining. I read it once but probably won't return to it for a second reading. A mixed bag, but the final essay is a must read. It made muddling through the rest of the middling efforts here well worth it. There's a lot of great, or at the very least interesting stories in this collection. Coupled with the introductions of each story and their author, there's a great deal of context to why everything is chosen for this The Mammoth Book of Cthulhu: New Lovecraftian Fiction. And it gets even more interesting with the authors from demographics that Lovecraft regularly looked down on. A must-have modern Lovecraftian collection with some of the best names in the field. It mixes a legendary rock music club, 80's nostalgia, and a truly weird but non-gory twist. It brought to mind to me in a great way of some of the work of Ramsey Campbell, and evoked to me some of the cool ideas of T. Klein's "Nadelman's God. Fun book and well written stories. Some of The Mammoth Book of Cthulhu: New Lovecraftian Fiction are top-notch and others are only good. So there you are. The whole Cthulu thing is based on scant material from Lovecraft. These stories take that ball and run with it They're all good, though. Lovecraft, and specifically the Cthulu myth, is not either really sci-fi or fantasy or horror, but a kind of stew of all of them, plus a certain something extra unique to Lovecraft - a sense of tension and foreboding. Only a couple of these stories capture that Lovecraft essence. But they're all pretty god. I mean good. This has a mix of wonderful stories and some horrible ones.
