A theatre needs a stage and actors and an audience. A theatre also needs friends: friends who will raise money, spread the word and do the work without any pay. The Friends of Riverside Theatre have a stellar record for doing all the above and 2017 Fall Luncheon having a good time as well.

Founded by Cay Armstrong in 1975, she and her “friends” were imaginative and industrious in their efforts to keep the lights bright at Riverside. Over the next 40+ years, the Friends of Riverside have held auctions, created cookbooks, played bridge, held fashion shows, theatre trips, golf tournaments, and glittering galas starring some of the most talented performers from Broadway.

In 2018, with a committee of 100 willing volunteers, under the 2016 Fall Luncheon guidance of Rosemary Haverland, the Friends are an invaluable compliment to the Theatre’s operation.

This season, the Friends will present two extraordinary special events – Supper Club starring Broadway star Laura Benanti and the Premier Benefit starring comedian Jay Leno.

It’s the Friendly touch that makes Riverside a special asset to the community. Without Friends, Riverside Theatre, as we know it today, could not exist. 2017 Premiere Benefit SPECIAL EVENTS SPE C I AL E VEN T S JANUARY 5TH, 10AM - 4PM FREE FAMILY FUN IN RIVERSIDE PARK AND AT THE MUSEUM OF ART EVENT CO-CHAIRS, Over 100 area cultural organizations including Anne Blatherwick and Debbie Weise theaters, orchestras, museums, art galleries and COCKTAIL ATTIRE performing arts venues come together on the first Saturday in January to showcase events and Presented by the Riverside Friends Committee programming at the various organizations. LERNER & LOEWE’S

One of the most successful and award-winning musicals in Broadway history, My Fair Lady is an endearing tale that charms audiences with its warmth and vivid characters. Professor Henry Higgins loves language and Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle desires to speak like a lady. Embarking on a social experiment, sparks fly in the most unexpected places in this clash of cultures. With witty dialogue and jubilant songs including “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “The Rain in Spain,” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face,” My Fair Lady is frequently called, “the perfect musical.”
