A funny thing happened on the way to the referendum As the independence referendum gathers pace the festival offers a series of shows designed to generate discussion and, of course, laughs! On Monday 31st March the UK’s top political satirist Rory Bremner will be joined by friends on stage at the Citizens Theatre to take the nation’s political temperature in what promises to be a unique and unmissable event. Two of Scotland’s top political comedians Keir McAllister and Vladimir McTavish will bring their acclaimed show State of Scotland to Blackfriars Basement on Sunday 30th March to take their audience on a comedic journey through our present-day nation that will uncover the funny in Scottish politics. And after the sell-out success in 2013, the Sunday Herald again hosts a debate on the big question. Iain Macwhirter chairs the discussion Mibbes Aye, Mibbes Naw where Yes and No campaigns have been challenged to win their argument through humour. Tommy Sheppard, director of the festival organiser’s the Scottish Comedy Agency, said: “This is a big year for Glasgow, and for Scotland, and I’m delighted to say that we’ve got a programme which steps up to the mark. The Main Character's Speech Style in the Television Series Miranda Monika Matúšů Bachelor’s Thesis 2021 ABSTRAKT Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat řeč hlavní postavy seriálu Miranda z lingvistického hlediska. Klíčová slova: Humor, sitcom, Miranda, lingvistická analýza, analýza idiolektu ABSTRACT This Bachelor's thesis aims to analyze the speech of the main character of the TV series Miranda from a linguistic point of view. The paper is divided into two chapters. The theoretical part deals with humour, especially humour in linguistics and culture, namely British. The analysis is based on the main character’s speech in the series, focusing on the features of Miranda’s idiolect. Chapter 2 also examines how Miranda creates humour. It was found that Miranda builds her character on the principles of traditional British humor, for example through a criticism of social classes. Keywords: Humour, sitcom, Miranda, linguistic analysis, idiolect analysis ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I wish to express my sincere thanks to the supervisor of my bachelor thesis M.A. Svitlana Shurma, PhD for the help, lots of valuable and inspiring advice, recommendations, comments, patience and willingness during consultations.
