Referee Appointed for Semi-Final in London
Media Release Date: 03/05/2004 Communiqué aux médias No. 069 Medien-Mitteilung Referee appointed for semi-final in London The UEFA Referees Committee today announced that Swedish referee Anders Frisk will officiate at the second leg of the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League semi-final between Chelsea FC and AS Monaco to be played at Stamford Bridge in London on Wednesday 5 May, kicking-off at 19.45 local time (20.45 CET). His assistant referees will be Kenneth Petersson and Peter Ekström, while the Fourth Official will be Peter Fröjdfeldt. All four members of the team are from Sweden. Anders Frisk, 41, has been a referee for 26 years and won his FIFA badge 13 years ago. His first major tournament was EURO 96 in England, where he was the referee of the 3-3 draw between Russia and the Czech Republic in Liverpool. Four years later, he officiated at three EURO 2000 matches, including the final between France and Italy in Rotterdam. The previous games had been Portugal’s 3-2 win against England in Eindhoven and the Netherlands’ victory over France in Amsterdam by the same scoreline. At the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, he handled the matches between Brazil and China (4-0) followed by Spain and Republic of Ireland (3-2 for Spain in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw). Anders Frisk has handled five UEFA Champions League fixtures this season and, curiously, not one has ended as a home win. The other curiosity is that, even though this is his 111th international match, he has visited London only three times – once for England’s 2-0 defeat by the Netherlands in August 2001. -

RUSSIA - SPAIN MATCH PRESS KIT Ernst Happel, Vienna Thursday 26 June 2008 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Matchday 18 - Semi-finals Contents 1 - Match preview 7 - Competition facts 2 - Match facts 8 - Team facts 3 - Squad list 9 - UEFA information 4 - Head coach 10 - Competition information 5 - Match officials 11 - Legend 6 - Match-by-match lineups Match background Russia will hope that lightning does not strike twice when they take on Spain for the second time at UEFA EURO 2008™ in their semi-final at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion. • Guus Hiddink's team were well beaten by Spain in the teams' opening match of the tournament, going down 4-1 as David Villa struck a hat-trick in Innsbruck. With his three goals (20, 44, 75), Villa became the first player since 2000 to score a hat-trick on this illustrious stage before setting up the fourth goal for Cesc Fàbregas (90+1) after Roman Pavlyuchenko (86) had reduced the deficit. • If it is little surprise that Luis Aragonés's Spain have steadily built on that victory to reach their first semi-final in 24 years, Russia's impressive turnaround since that false start was perhaps less easy to predict. Yet it continues Hiddink's commendable record at major tournaments, having never failed to take a team beyond the opening stage. • After losing to Spain, Russia revived their hopes by defeating holders Greece 1-0 in Salzburg through a 33rd-minute goal by Konstantin Zyryanov. They then beat Sweden 2-0 in their decisive third group game, Pavlyuchenko (24) and Andrei Arshavin (50) scoring as Russia secured their passage to the last eight. -

068: Referee Appointed for UEFA Champions League Final
Media Release Date: 19/05/2008 Communiqué aux médias No. 068 Medien-Mitteilung Referee appointed for UEFA Champions League final The UEFA Referees Committee today announced the referee for the final of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League between Manchester United FC and Chelsea FC to be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Wednesday 21 May, kicking-off at 20.45 CET (22.45 local time in Moscow). The match will be handled by Slovakian referee Lubos Michel, who celebrated his 40th birthday last Friday. Born in Stropkov, he made his refereeing debut at a 6th-category match between FK Duplin and FK Strocin in 1987. By 1993, he had graduated to the top division and, in the November of that year, made his international debut at a match involving England – a European Under-21 Championship fixture against San Marino. Lubos Michel was at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and handled the Brazil v Argentina final of the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup (Carlos Tévez was 72nd-minute sub). He had become the first referee from the independent Slovakia to officiate at a FIFA World Cup match (the Paraguay v South Africa fixture in 2002). At the 2006 finals he refereed the Portugal v Mexico game (Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho played; Cristiano Ronaldo was on the bench), plus the Brazil v Ghana match (Michael Essien unused) and the Argentina v Germany game that featured Michael Ballack and Carlos Tévez. Lubos Michel was referee of the 2003 UEFA Cup final in Seville between FC Porto and Celtic FC. At EURO 2004, he handled the Greece v Spain, Switzerland v France and Sweden v Netherlands games.
