DATE CHANGE!!

SHREDDING WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30TH 10:30 AM EPWORTH VILLA GRAND LOBBY When you bring papers for shredding this time, you will notice a change of companies. The shredding company we have been using, Mobile Shredding, was bought out by another company and they do not make ‘house calls’. Therefore, we are changing to The Meadows for our shredding needs because they will come to us. As before, shredding will cost $10.00 per person. If you have anything to be shredded, please bring cash with you and be in the lobby at 10:30 am. They will only stay as long as we have residents with items to shred. No signup is necessary. For more information on The Meadows and their shredding process, please visit http://www.meadowsoklahoma.com/shredding.htm.

3 SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY, JANUARY 27TH BRILL CHAPEL 9:30 AM Philippians 2 IMITATE CHRIST Which Way Is Up Experts offer a surprising conclusion about victims of drowning: they often die not because they cannot swim but because they do not know where to swim. Suddenly submerged deep underwater, victims often swim toward where they believe the surface to be, but in fact they are swimming deeper into the water. We can compare that situation to a vital biblical idea communicated in this week's text. Sinful human beings are swimming for their lives, trying to find the surface. But as they swim toward what they think is up – toward power, prestige, wealth, comfort – they are swimming deeper into what will ultimately ruin their lives. The gospel teaches us that the true way up is the way we usually think is down. Jim West will lead us through this important lesson. Come early to hear our own Freeta Moore bless us with her piano mastery of the hymns at 9:15am.

VESPERS THURSDAY, JANUARY 24TH 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL

VESPERS THURSDAY, JANUARY 31ST 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL

NEWS FROM RELIGIOUS LIFE

If you have not yet picked up your January/February issue of "The Upper Room" daily devotional guide, we still have a few available. Don't miss out! Courtesy of the RLC, your copy is waiting for you in the Brill Chapel foyer in a display just left of the office door.

Last Thursday 1/17, was the first time attendees at Vespers service had the opportunity to make a voluntary donation to the Religious program. Reference the memo placed in your in-house box announcing the implementation a couple of weeks ago. Apologies to those who missed seeing the place to do this. Some of you asked .... where? The collection plate on a stand will be on the right side of the foyer a few feet from the Chapel entrance. It tends to get crowded in the foyer and hard to spot when you are not used to it.

Once the service is underway, the ushers will move the collection plate to a new location inside the chapel against the back wall on the left as you exit. The move is necessary to clear the space in the foyer for the valet parked walkers that are lined up and waiting to be returned to their owner at the conclusion of the service.

Feel free to call with questions. Wilma R., Religious Life Chair

7 INQUIRING MINDS MONDAY, JANUARY 28TH 7:14PM WELLNESS CENTER THE STORY OF INDIA MODERATOR: EDITH CARLSTONE Episode 4 – "Ages of Gold” The achievements of the country's golden age, including how India discovered zero, calculated the circumference of the Earth and wrote the world's first sex guide, the Kama Sutra. In the south, the giant temple of Tanjore built by emperor Rajaraja Chola and traditional bronze casters, working as their ancestors did 1,000 years ago are shown. Michael Wood calls Tamil Nadu, "the only surviving 'Classical Civilization' in the world." Tamil is older than any modern European language. I wanted to remind Western-centric audiences, who implicitly assume the superiority of Western modes of thought, that Tamil is one of 23 official Indian languages, with a literature comparable to any in the West. It makes viewers sit up and question their assumptions.

GOOGLY EYES Have you seen a googly eye on name tags of your friends and neighbors here at Epworth Villa?? Have you asked them what it means?? If not, here’s your answer. The residents wearing those eyes want you to know that they have ’vision conditions’ that might prevent them from recognizing you from a distance. They want you to know they aren’t trying to be rude if they don’t call you by name. They ask that you identify yourself to them when you approach. *IF YOU HAVE VISION PROBLEMS AND WOULD LIKE A GOOGLY EYE ON YOUR NAME TAG, STOP BY SUSAN’S OFFICE TO GET ONE.
