Capital Conference 2019 September 26 CAPITAL CONFERENCE SEPTEMBER 26 2019 XFINITY LIVE! PRESENTED BY: HOSTED BY: Building Equity, Fueling Success Join PACT for a full-day of content, speakers, networking and company pitches. Whether you are looking for capital, customers or connections, the opportunities to achieve this happen at the PACT Capital Conference. @PhilaPACT @pactphl PACT phl @PhilaPACT Use #PACTcapcon for tweets and posts! As this year’s Co-Chairs, it is our honor to invite you to join us at the 2019 PACT Capital Conference. This is the 26th capital conference, and it is appropriately taking place on September 26 at Xfinity Live! in Philadelphia. The PACT Capital Conference has been uniting key players from the private equity, venture capital, and entrepreneurial communities for more than a quarter century. This event offers attendees access to emerging companies from the Mid-Atlantic region, networking opportunities with the dynamos of the VC community, as well as educational panels and content sessions. As the oldest and most established venture conference in the Northeast, the conference draws more than 1,000 participants each year and serves as a catalyst for billions of dollars in venture funding and entrepreneurial success in our region. This year’s theme, “Building equity; fueling success,” is a nod to the evidence that shows that businesses with greater diversity at the executive and board levels fuel greater success and deliver more equity to shareholders. With our theme in mind, we reached out to more diverse investors and entrepreneurs than ever before, including a lioness who will join us in the “Lion’s Den.” The 2019 PACT Capital Conference will include: − Expanded Industry Pitches – In addition to pitches from the region’s most promising emerging healthcare and technology companies, we will also showcase companies within the social impact, university and international arenas. - “Lion’s Den” – Select companies will present to a panel of distinguished angel investors looking to commit a check on the spot to power entrepreneurial ventures. Last year’s Lion’s Den led to more than $4 million closed in aggregate. − Dynamic Keynote Speakers – Former Philadelphia Eagles (and Villanova Wildcat) running back Brian Westbrook will take the stage, as well as Natalie Nixon, Ph.D, design thinking guru. − Expert Panelists – Providing opportunities to increase understanding of the latest trends and best practices within healthcare and technology/early stage ventures plus a new investor-focused panel that is not to be missed. − Gala Reception – Lauded as the year’s premier networking event for the region’s entrepreneurial and investment community. On behalf of Duane Morris, our fellow sponsors, PACT committee members, and the entire PACT community, we are excited to invite you to this dynamic event. We look forward to seeing you there! Yours sincerely, Sandra G. • State Strategies to Promote Angel Investment for Economic Growth*
Contact: Chris Hayter, Program Director, Economic Development Social, Economic, and Workforce Programs Division 202/624-7833 February 14, 2008 State Strategies to Promote Angel Investment for Economic Growth* Executive Summary Governors are increasingly interested in entrepreneurship because of its key role in driving business innovation. While entrepreneurs face several common challenges, including developing business acumen and making connections with experts and mentors, often their greatest challenge is raising capital. Entrepreneurs’ emerging technologies are frequently viewed as too risky for banks, private equity firms and venture capitalists, yet many fledgling companies require more investment to grow than can be raised from friends and family. Angel investors are increasingly stepping in to fill this gap. Angel investors are wealthy individuals with business or technology backgrounds who provide entrepreneurs with capital, connections, and guidance. They provide early-stage financing in a space once occupied by venture capitalists, who now invest primarily in larger deals and more mature companies. Individual angels invest between $5,000 and $100,000 in local and regional ventures, primarily in high-technology sectors, giving their investments local impact. In the past decade, many angel investors have formed and joined groups because investing through groups offers several advantages, most notably a large and more diverse portfolio, access to expertise, and higher deal flow. States increasingly recognize the value of angel investments and are adopting policies to promote them. Some have created statewide networks to assist the formation of angel groups, link angel groups to share best practices, and help groups invest together in companies that need more funding than a single group can offer.
