Everyone was able A NOTE FROM A SOLDIER to physically participate in playing and for the new ones special I can still remember the first time I received a care package attention was given. from the Solera Community’s Support Our Troops Program while I was deployed in Afghanistan. To this day it brings a smile to my face. It wasn’t just the items that were in the box (it had everything I needed!), it was the understanding of what it took to provide such a care package to soldiers, like me, on a regular basis. I knew from talking with my parents that the list of recipients was extensive and in multiple locations around the world. What it takes to consistently provide these types of care packages to service members all over the world is much more complex and costly than I think most people realize and the impact it is having on our service members is also much greater than most people can understand.

I tell you these things for two reasons. The first, is to express my deepest gratitude on behalf of all the men and woman that the Solera Support Our Troops Program has supported and continues to support today, both at home and abroad. The dedication of your community to our military is above and beyond what we could ask from anyone. I am confident that each and every recipient of a Solera Support Our Troops care packages, personal notes, pictures of home, cards to them and for them to send, will tell you how much it meant to them and how much better it made their deployment or assignment. You would be amazed how one of these packages can change the day, week, month, deployment, of one of our great service members who is having a challenging time with their deployment or assignment away from home. You bring a piece of home back to them and show that they are cared about and always remembered. The second reason is to request your continued community wide support for this program, to ensure that our brave men and women serving around the world always know there are great Americans like you, in the Solera Community, that are thankful for their service and willing to help out in any way they can.

My family and I enjoyed being with you at your annual fundraiser last year. With your help, and I know this year’s will be another huge success. Thanks to all in Solera for your continued support!

Gratefully. Michael G. Summers Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army
