Schiff (R-NM) for information regarding an alleged crash of an unidentified flying object (UFO) that occurred in the state in 1947. This publication duplicates the information provided to the Secretary of the Air Force and to the General Accounting Office (GAO). It was written as a result of Colonel Weaver’s and Lieutenant McAndrew’s efforts to locate the records that explain the events of July 1947 leading to what is popularly known as the Roswell Incident. The only information presented here that was not in the report delivered to the Secretary of the Air Force and the GAO is the photograph section. It appears after Colonel Weaver’s final attachment, at the very end of this book.     REPORT OF AIR FORCE RESEARCH REGARDING THE "ROSWELL INCIDENT" July 1994 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The "Roswell Incident" refers to an event that supposedly happened in July, 1947, wherein the Army Air Forces (AAF) allegedly recovered remains of a crashed "flying disc" near Roswell, New Mexico. In February, 1994, the General Accounting Office (GAO), acting on the request of a New Mexico Congressman, initiated an audit to attempt to locate records of such an incident and to determine if records regarding it were properly handled. Although the GAO effort was to look at a number of government agencies, the apparent focus was on the Air Force. SAF/AAZ , as the Central Point of Contact for the GAO in this matter, initiated a systematic search of current Air Force off ices as well as numerous archives and records centers that might help explain this matter. Research revealed that the "Roswell Incident" was not even considered a UFO event until the 1978-1980 time frame. Prior to that, the incident was dismissed because the AAF originally identified the debris recovered as being that of a weather balloon. Subsequently, various authors wrote a number of books claiming that, not only was debris from an alien spacecraft recovered, but also the bodies of the craft's alien occupants. These claims continue to evolve today and the Air Force is now routinely accused of engaging in a "cover-up" of this supposed event. The research located no records at existing Air Force offices that indicated any "cover-up" by the USAF or any indication of such a recovery.

It addresses the research questions of: (1) Under what conditions would a person speak openly about conspiracy, and under what conditions would they remain silent? (2) What are the social factors that draw a person into joining with others who believe a particular conspiracy has occurred? And (3) is there any relationship between a person's education and profession that would increase or hinder a conspiracist's visible participation of his or her beliefs? A total of thirty interviews were conducted, ten each in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the 9/11 site in New York City, and West Virginia.

  • Ufos and Alien Visits According to Polls, About a Third of Americans
    UFOs and Alien Visits According to polls, about a third of Americans believe that we are being visited by flying saucers. If so, this would be profoundly important, since it would prove the existence of not just life, but technologically superior intelligent life. What is the evidence for this? In a larger sense, how much evidence should we demand to believe in alien visits? In this class we will go over the evidence and the psychology of belief. The net conclusion from my standpoint is that there is not a shred of definitive evidence for alien visits now or in the past, but that this demonstrates the eagerness people have to believe fun things :). Levels of belief and the burden of proof We will start by discussing several levels of belief, and how they apply to assessment of evidence. Levels include: • True believer. The phenomenon in question has been established beyond any possible doubt, and no further data or disproof of apparent evidence will make a difference. • Hopeful believer. Willing to accept disproof in individual cases, but still has a firm belief in the overall phenomenon. Consider Cubs fans, who are disappointed year after year but still believe starting the next season. • Genuinely neutral. Has not made up mind yet, and thinks that arguments for or against a phenomenon are about equally strong. Alternatively, has simply not cared enough to make a judgment. • Persuadable skeptic. Thinks that no current evidence for the phenomenon is enough for belief, but if strong enough evidence is presented they can accept it. • Entrenched skeptic.
