In spite of the district’s top-notch status in terms of high educational, human development index and humungous industrial productivity, given its geography, climate and certain other socio-political attributes, the district administration and its people have to co-exist with the probabilities of hazards like floods, cyclone, Tsunami, drought, heat wave, lightning and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergencies. The need of the hour, therefore, is a comprehensive disaster management plan which is participative and people-friendly with the component of inter- departmental co-ordination at its crux.
