In December of 2019, Anton Stephenson (back cover) was named NU’s nation-leading 18th NCAA Today’s Top Ten Award winner. Stephenson was a four-time Scheuler. All-American for the Husker men’s gymnastics program and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. 2019-20 NEBRASKA ATHLETICS 2 ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: HIGHLIGHTING THE HUSKERS = Husker student-athletes across all sports posted a record 3.331 cumulative GPA in the spring of 2020. = Across all sports, Nebraska posted a program-best 93 percent Graduation Success Rate. = An impressive group of 133 Husker student-athletes earned their ANGELA MERCURIO TRACK & FIELD degrees in December 2019, May 2020 or August 2020. BIOCHEMISTRY/ = A record total of 294 Nebraska student-athletes earned Academic WOMEN’S & GENDER STUDIES All-Big Ten recognition in 2019-20. KITCHENER, ONTARIO, CANADA NCAA WOMAN OF THE YEAR (2019) = A record 872 student-athletes were honored on the Nebraska NCAA POSTGRADUATE SCHOLAR Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 THREE-TIME ALL-AMERICAN semesters for earning a 3.000 or better term GPA. = Husker student-athletes combined for a record 156 perfect 4.000 GPA semesters. = A record total of 100 Nebraska letterwinners were named Big Ten Distinguished

A graduate student with a 4.00 G.P.A. while studying Fluid Dynamics, Schluntz is the Academic All-America® of the Year in the University Division. She earned her B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona last year. A summa cum laude graduate, she is first swimmer to be named as Academic All-America® of the Year since the inception of the award in 1988. In the University Division, there are 12 Academic All-America® teams selected annually - Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track, Men’s and Women’s At Large, Football, Volleyball, Baseball and Softball. In each program, there is an Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year. Those 12 Team Members of the Year are considered for the Academic All-America® of the Year Award. Schluntz was selected from a field of 12 Scholar-Athletes with an average G.P.A. of 3.79.

    Big 12 Conference Schools Raise Nine-Year NFL Draft Totals to 277 Alumni Through 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Apr. 26, 2003 DALLAS—Big 12 Conference teams had 10 of the first 62 selections in the 35th annual NFL “common” draft (67th overall) Saturday and added a total of 13 for the opening day. The first-day tallies in the 2003 NFL draft brought the number Big 12 standouts taken from 1995-03 to 277. Over 90 Big 12 alumni signed free agent contracts after the 2000-02 drafts, and three of the first 13 standouts (six total in the first round) in the 2003 draft were Kansas State CB Terence Newman (fifth draftee), Oklahoma State DE Kevin Williams (ninth) Texas A&M DT Ty Warren (13th). Last year three Big 12 standouts were selected in the top eight choices (four of the initial 21), and the 2000 draft included three alumni from this conference in the first 20. Colorado, Nebraska and Florida State paced all schools nationally in the 1995-97 era with 21 NFL draft choices apiece. Eleven Big 12 schools also had at least one youngster chosen in the eight-round draft during 1998. Over the last six (1998-03) NFL postings, there were 73 Big 12 Conference selections among the Top 100. There were 217 Big 12 schools’ grid representatives on 2002 NFL opening day rosters from all 12 members after 297 standouts from league members in ’02 entered NFL training camps—both all-time highs for the league. Nebraska (35 alumni) was third among all Division I-A schools in 2002 opening day roster men in the highest professional football configuration while Texas A&M (30) was among the Top Six in total NFL alumni last autumn.

A health and physical education major with a 4.0 G.P.A., Wentz was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® first-team choice. “I am extremely honored and blessed to be selected as the CoSIDA Academic All-American® of the Year. Being a student-athlete means making a strong commitment to both academics and athletics. I am proud to represent a championship football team, but also a program that values the importance of education,” said Wentz. “NDSU taught me so many things both in the classroom and on the football field,” he continued. “And I truly believe that helped me get to where I am today. I am very thankful for all of the support I received at NDSU.” The Philadelphia Eagles selected Wentz with the second pick of the 2016 NFL Draft in April. He is the first quarterback drafted out of NDSU and the highest-drafted non-Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) quarterback, surpassing Steve McNair (3rd in 1995), Phil Simms (7th in 1979), Joe Flacco (18th in 2008) and Ken O’Brien (24th in 1983).

The compilation of the All-America roster was supervised by a panel of analysts working in large part with the historical records contained in the files of the Dr. Baker Football Information Service. The roster consists of only those players who were first-team selections on one or more of the All-America teams that were selected for the national audience and received nationwide circulation. Not included are the thousands of players who received mention on All-America second or third teams, nor the numerous others who were selected by newspapers or agencies with circulations that were not primarily national and with viewpoints, therefore, that were not normally nationwide in scope.
