Instructions to the candidates

1. Duration of the Written Entrance Test is one hour. 2. In case the front cover page of the answer script is not duly and correctly filled, the script may be rejected. 3. Candidates can write answers in either English or Bangla. 4. Candidates are encouraged to type their answers. 5. If typing is not possible, please write in black or dark blue ink on white paper. 6. Examination Roll number and other identifying details should be typed or written ONLY on the first page. Names, roll numbers or any other identifying details SHOULD NOT be mentioned anywhere else on the answer script. 7. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that their desktops/laptops/smart phones (or whatever devices are being used) are sufficiently charged and that they have internet connection to download the question paper and email the answer scripts. 8. No extra time will be given to any candidate in case of technical glitches at their end. 9. Answer scripts can be submitted in two ways: i) Handwritten answer scripts can be scanned (not photographed) and saved as a single jpg or pdf document (that is, the pages must be stitched or merged). The document should be legible and clear. or ii) Answers can be typed and the scripts must be saved as a single pdf document. 10. The size of the document should not exceed 25 MB. 11. Soft copy of the answer script has to be mailed to [email protected] strictly within half an hour after the end of the examination. ______

Answer one question from each group.

Group A

1. What are the necessary and sufficient conditions for the minima of a function y=f(x) ? Examine the conditions stated by you for the minima of the function 푦 = 푥for -∞

2. You have gathered data on income and consumption of and USA for the period 1970 to 2020 and estimated consumption functions for the two countries via two separate regressions. The coefficient of the regressor is the MPC which turned out to be higher for USA than for India. How can you examine the validity of the finding that MPC of USA is higher than India?

3. Give an example of the Allais Paradox. Why does it violate VNM expected utility? Argue, how putting different weights on the probability function can solve this problem.

4. Post pandemic Government of India announced a number of policy measures of which major thrust has been put on guarantee on bank loans. Can you formulate the policy measure in a standard macroeconomic model? How do you evaluate the efficacy of the policy for raising income and employment?
