Father Knows Best - Head Coach Willie Taggart and his son Willie Taggart, Jr. are currently one of six father and Preseason Accolades son head coach/player combinations at the same FBS school. They are just the second ever at FAU with former head base- ball coach Kevin Cooney and his son Jim (1999-02) being the first.

Two additional FBS head coaches have sons playing at the FBS level but separate schools: Will Muschamp (S. Carolina) Jackson (Georgia) Ken Niumatalolo (Navy) Ali’i (Utah)

Three Willie- When the name Willie is called on the FAU fooball practice fields at least three heads will turn. There is Head Coach Willie Taggart. There is wide receiver Willie Wright and the newest to the complex is Willie Taggart, Jr., who thankfully will also answer to Will.

Year of the Freshmen - Evan Anderson, a true fresh- man on the defensive line earned a starting spot in game one. With the nod he became the first true freshman to start at that postion since Trevon Coley did so in 2012. Coley is currently with the Arizona Cardinals and is in his fifth NFL season. Two other true freshmen who have quickly made a name for themselves are wide receiver LaJohntay Wester and linebacker Chris Jones. Justin McKithen is the third who saw time.

Transfer Receivers - Head coach Willie Taggart was on the sidelines for the 2019 Boca Raton Bowl and one of the things which he knew he needs to address was the depth of the receiving corps. He did so by adding transfers: D’Marcus Adams (FSU), BJ Alexander (Kentucky), Damian Alloway (Mt. San Antonio College),TJ Chase (Clemson), Yanez Rog- ers (Cincinnati), and Aaron Young (Duke).

Mitchell was named a Campbell semifinalist but is out of the running with a season-ending injury. He will be nominated again in 2021.
