Stradivarius Show is an amazing fusion of classical music and contemporary rhythms accompanied by the beautiful musicians of the Monte Carlo Orchestra. With a contemporary twist, Stradivarius Show expands the appeal of classical music. Click here to watch a brief preview of Marton performing and a glimpse of the famous violin. Listen here to his rendition of Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose” from the 2012 movie “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.” Marton is a friend of the singer Seal and even played at his wedding to model Heidi Klum. Marton will be performing with a Stradivarius violin made in Cremona, Italy in 1697 and played by famed Italian virtuoso violinist and composer, Niccolò Paganini. The instrument is one of eight Stradivarius violins in the same condition in the world. Stradivarius instruments originate from the workshop of luthier Antonio Stradivari and are renowned for their superior sound quality. Marton is a Hungarian musician born in Ukraine in 1974 and was accepted into the Central Tchakowsky Music School in Moscow at 8 years old. Marton performed with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra when he was 12 years old. Five years later, Marton entered the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. He went on to master his musical style and sensibility at Juilliard School of Music, where he was awarded a scholarship. While still in his 20s, Marton won the chance to play the Paganini Stradivarius violin subsequently lent to him for life. At the 2006 Winter Olympics Marton performed two original compositions, “Tosca Fantasy” and “Romeo and Juliet,” for Gold Medalist skaters Evgeni Plushenko, Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinian. He is scheduled to perform during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. -more- Brilliant Lectures/Edvin Marton/2 That same year, Marton became the first Hungarian to receive an Emmy Award for Best Composition. He became close friends with Russian Olympic figure skater Plushenko. They collaborated again during the internationally-televised 2008 Eurovison Song Contest as part of the performance of Russian singer Dima Bilan’s first place winning song, “Believe.” He has also released five albums, which include both his performances of famous compositions and his own original compositions. Edvin Marton’s Stradivarius Show premiere is presented by Brilliant Lecture Series and title sponsor Tenenbaum & Company Classic Jewelers. • Richly Contextualized Via a Masterful Introduction, This Book's Story of The
Richly contextualized via a masterful introduction, this book’s story of the Eurovision Song Contest sings with the verve of topicality. The ‘new’ Europe is revealed in fascinating guises through clear-eyed accounts of what has been invested in its performance in particular places and among specific audiences. In the macronarratives shaping this global contest as much as the micromoments of its annual unfolding, national and supranational politics, we learn, are no less intriguing than that chameleon-like entity we still call Europe. A provocative and timely collection. –Helen Gilbert, Professor of Theatre, Royal Holloway, University of London. A book full of insight, facts, opinions and great stories about the world’s most successful TV format ever. –Svante Stockselius, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest (2003–2010). This impressive collection takes Eurovision studies to the next level, and it is especially timely now that the new post-Wall unified Europe faces some of its greatest economic and political challenges. The newly expanded Song Contest is far more than just an entertaining or embar- rassing TV show – it’s actually still ‘a battlefield’, in the memorable words of one of the book’s contributors; a way of channeling the ten- sions and rivalries that still lurk beneath and now often break through the surface of this ideal imagined Europe. How do Britain and Russia see and sing themselves from their post-superpower positions, how do Israel and Serbia and Azerbaijan perform their inclusion in the European project, how do ethnic minori- ties like Roma play a role within national and cultural identities, and how do feminists and queers find themselves represented in a show that attracts many women and gays? The eleven contributors shine a light on all these questions and more in their incisive and often provoca- tive analyses, while the lively panel discussion brings in broadcasters’ voices.

  • Brussels, March 22, 2021 Dear Mr. Franceschini, We
Brussels, March 22, 2021 Dear Mr. Franceschini, We, performers from across Europe, stand in unity calling on all Member States to ensure the proper and effective implementation of the 2019 European Copyright Directive in Europe, and in particular its Article 18 which provides performers with a right to appropriate and proportionate remuneration! Streaming and downloading platforms are no longer part of an emerging market. It is how most people now enJoy listening to music or watching films or series. Yet despite revenues from digital overtaking all other forms of exploitation, we, the musicians, singers, actors and other performing artists, are not receiving a fair share, and in most cases indeed nothing at all. Whilst legislation is protecting us for non-interactive uses like broadcasting, guaranteeing that we are paid fairly through our Collective Management Organisations, it does not when the same music recording, series or film is streamed or downloaded. The current system is totally inefficient to protect performers and needs to be addressed urgently through the meaningful implementation of Article 18. We believe the best solution to this issue is for Member States to implement an unwaivable remuneration right that is enforceable even after the transfer/licensing of the exclusive right and is managed by our Collective Management Organisations (CMOs). Such a system would unlock a new revenue channel for us and ensure that we will be paid for our work played. It is the system that performers want because we know that this system guarantees payment independent from our weak bargaining positions and already works for us for other modes of exploitation and does already work in some countries, such as Spain, for streaming and downloading.

  • Message from Alfa-Bank Management
ALFA-BANK / SOCIAL REPORT 2007 / MESSAGE FROM ALFA-BANK MANAGEMENT Message froM alfa-Bank ManageMent Alfa-Bank is proud to present its Social Report 2007. Social responsibility in business has ceased to be merely a popular catchphrase. Leading Russian companies are becoming increasingly aware that it is impossible to do business in isolation. A company’s competitiveness in the local market and the prosperity of the regions where it operates depends largely on the level of social responsibility that company has adopted. For us, however, social engagement is primarily an opportunity to contribute to the social well-being and prosperity of our country. We are continuously expanding the range of our charitable projects and initiatives and we believe that this trend will continue in future. The Social Report of Alfa-Bank describes key aspects of the Bank’s charitable activities at both national and regional level. In 2007, the Bank continued its active support of national theatre, art, literature and music. All the initiatives sponsored by the Bank enjoyed wide publicity and have become important events on Russia’s cultural calendar. Special emphasis has always been given to projects that focus on socially vulnerable groups – children, the disabled, veterans. We cooperate widely with charitable foundations and organisations like the Life Line programme, which provides assistance to critically ill children. The Bank also prioritises the support of projects aimed at environmental protection. To Alfa-Bank corporate social responsibility also implies concern for our own employees and a drive to create optimal working conditions for them, because this is a prerequisite for the efficient performance of each employee and consequently for the overall success of the Bank’s business.
