23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback Sri Ramachandra University is in a constant pursuit of excellence in all dimensions. As a part of internal quality assessment, Sri Ramachandra University (SRU) has been collecting feedback from students periodically to upgrade the quality of the University on different fronts. The dimensions on which feedback is gathered includes information on course, faculty, assessments, facilities and future involvement of the students. This kind of exercise would help the university authorities to identify problem areas which would be hindering the progress of the university and its functionality to the best of the standards. This will also help the university to compare with the set standards both nationally and internationally.

A feedback was developed with items across domains, including faculty. The responses were collected on a five point scale as poor, average, good, very good and excellent. Students were at liberty to mark their responses, and the data collected was analyzed by an independent evaluator and the identity of the student is not known. This kind of unbiased information was collected from 11 different/courses of the university, which included medical, dental,

67 paramedical, and allied health sciences. The data collected was entered in Microsoft excel format and then analyzed by SPSS software for detailed information. To start with, the percent responses to each of the five point scale was calculated for all the 11 courses and tabulated. The five point scale was further reduced to three point grades as high, medium and low for easy understanding of the responses given by the students without losing any details or information (here poor and average graded as low, good as medium and very good and excellent as high); The feedback on faculty obtained from students of various departments is summarized below:

To facilitate easy interpretation of these numbers, the tables have been transformed into simple line graphs, without losing out any information provided by the students. Each graph corresponds to an item of the questionnaire which was given to the students of different courses of the university. Each graph has a red dotted line at the ‗average‘ point (i.e. 3 on the 5 point scale provided). This is just an arbitrary cut off made to distinguish the responses

69 provided by the students. It is considered that any black dot corresponds to a course on the x- axis and to the grading on the y-axis. Figure 1: Interest, Sincerity and Commitment of Faculty

24. Feedback from stakeholders

Students:

Periodic comprehensive student evaluation is sent to parents regularly.

In the Medical College the student‘s feedback is obtained through their learning orientation in the integrated Curriculum in Phases I & II. Postgraduates feedback is got at the departmental level and used for improvements.

In all the other colleges the feedback is got from the students at the end of each semester / year through questionnaire, which carries various aspects of teaching, learning and curriculum design.

Employer: Employers provide informal feedback during campus interviews and through alumni employed in their organization.

Parents:

Most of the colleges collect oral feedback received from parents through parent faculty meets organized at regular intervals. Feedbacks are also received during the parents visit to college on any other occasions.

Patients: DEPARTMENT OF PATIENT AND GUEST RELATIONS
