President’s Report

Both on and off the field the year was, in my opinion, nothing short of brilliant (albeit touched with sadness early in the year with the loss of stalwart Russell ‘Ergy’ Neal), congratulations to everyone involved with the Club. I hope everyone enjoyed the year as much as me. History will shows us as run-away Club Champions; run-away Minor Premiers in 1st, 2nd & 3rd Grade; Minor and Major Premiers in u’16s and indeed competitive in each other side we fielded. I don’t know that we could have done much more as a club during the year, my thanks to all Coaching staff from Belly and Bucket right through to tee-ball. Thankyou to the players for continuing to proudly perform and behave as we expect Belmont personnel will (a fond farewell to club legend Bradles and Dennis). My thanks to scorers, team EO’s , assistant ground crew, canteen workers, BBQ men,…..the list goes on and I am sure I have overlooked many. Special thanks to the hard working committee headed up by Kim and Maxine, without each and everyone of you we could not have continued to produce the smooth running and successful Club we have. My only complaint is that it remains a fact that at our club (like most others) it is such a small group of people that do the bulk of the work, I would dearly love to see more volunteers in all areas next year, parents in particular – please get involved. As always I wish to thank the Belmont Sportsman’s Club for their support, without them we would not be able to supply the standard of facilities that we do at such a reasonable cost to members – Clarkey in particular a big thankyou for the effort you supply above and beyond the call to provide our first- class grounds. To our kindred clubs – Lakes United congratulations on capturing the Premiership in 2006 and to Belmont District Club – good luck for the season underway. Let us congratulate ourselves on the year that was, it is indeed a springboard to further domination of the competition that we look towards in the future. I look forward to seeing everyone back again in 2007 for another season of Belmont Baseball.

Secretary’s Report

I will give just a brief report now, for the longer version refer to both the Secretaries and Junior report in the Annual report. I have enjoyed the year but was surprised at how much of my time it took up, now every thing is set up on computer shouldn’t be so bad next season. High points of the year were the increase in numbers of juniors, the performance of all players and teams. Both tournaments we held were great successes and I think the Sunday night functions both at our club and at different fields were fun and successful. A big thank you to all the committee , coaches, players, scorers, umpires and canteen and ground helpers. Your work is appreciated.

As a proud Club President I would like to touch briefly on the year that was. Both on and off the field the year was, in my opinion, very successful – not withstanding the disappointments of Grand Final day. Congratulations to everyone involved with the Club. I hope everyone enjoyed the year as much as me. History will show us as run-away Club Champions; run- away Minor Premiers in 1st, 2nd & 3rd Grade; Minor and Major Premiers in u’16s and indeed competitive in each other side we fielded. Inexplicably, however, we failed to reproduce our dominance from the regular season into the Grand Finals in all 3 grades - not to worry we will be back bigger and better in 2008. The strength of this years Juniors is a testament to our Programme and also an indicator of a bright future.

My thanks to all Coaching staff from Belly and Bucket right through to tee-ball. Thankyou to the players for continuing to proudly perform and behave as we expect Belmont personnel will (a fond farewell to club legend Doc Rosser). Special thanks to those new volunteers who stepped up and helped out in so many ways – I encourage everyone to put in some time to help keep the club where it is.

2007 season was a very busy but rewarding one both on and off the field. With the executive unchanged but a few new faces on the committee we set about to lay the foundations for a successful season.

The season began with a couple of try-baseball days these were well attended and once again our numbers in juniors were pleasing, we fielded two teams in the T-ball competition, one U12 & U14 and two Under 16 sides. Senior registrations were also stable and we were able to field a fresh team for each of the 6 grades. Congratulations to the club as a whole in taking out both the Senior and Junior Club Championship.

Thanks to funds raised from the canteen we were able to purchase new uniforms so our juniors were sporting the same colours as the senior club, they looked fabulous and we also purchased a much needed new glass front fridge for the canteen. Actually getting this into the canteen through the window opening was no mean feat but with precision Belmont Team work led by Chad all eventually went well with no casualties

Once again we hosted The Tom Walton Cup in April and we held a ‘Back to Belmont Day’ where we invited both our Life Members and Foundation members to come along, we also held a few ‘Buddy Days’ where our juniors had a chance to throw and bat with their first grade heroes and then carry out Batboy duties. Although the number of participants in both of these activities was lower than expected those that took up the opportunity really enjoyed the experience and were full of praise. Thank You to all the first graders and coaches for both your tolerance and enthusiasm on these days.

Off the field we held a successful Trivia Night and also a very successful chocolate drive. This raised substantial funds and allowed us to purchase 2 Zooka pitching machines which have already been put to good use and we still have funds left to repair and improve our cages. Over the years selling chocolates seems to be the most successful way of raising extra money and a huge Thank-You must go to Tina Thompson for co-ordinating this drive and a special mention to Jody Poole who sold 18 boxes on her own. We continued with our after game functions back in the Sporties Club after home games and these produced a regular crowd.

The use of emails once again made contacting players easier and we hope to next year have our Belmont Baseball website up and running so that each player can just refer to this site for information regarding regos, training, wet weather and fixtures as well as other important dates.

Now to more Thank You’s firstly to my fellow committee members Thanks to each of you for all the effort you have put in to make a successful year. Well Done! to Elese for producing the fortnightly ‘Bombshell’ I’m sure the players enjoyed reading of their feats. Congratulations to Stewart on another successful year as club coach and thanks also for your help with the juniors. To Kim thanks for all your organisation throughout the year and also for your co-ordination of the canteen.

I would like to thank the Belmont Sportsman’s Club for all their support and assistance this year. They continue to provide us with facilities that are second to none in the association. and thank you to Stephen Clarkson (Clarky) for having our grounds looking great each weekend.

And last but by no means least thank-you to all our Junior and Senior Players and Coaches with out your efforts and support the year would not have been half as successful and rewarding as it was.

Another season has come and gone before our eyes and once again it was a success in many ways. My role as Club Coach is a position I am honoured to hold and isn’t possible to do to the highest standard without help from many people and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them.

Firstly there is the Major League Coaching staff of Bucket, PI and Adza. Gents I greatly appreciate all your work throughout the season. There is a great deal of work that is done through the week behind the scenes to get teams ready for the weekend and I believe we worked well as a group and have the club heading in the right direction to remain the best Club in the Newcastle competition for many years to come. To the assistant coaches and scorers your efforts are greatly appreciated and we couldn’t get through the season without you. Also to the Minor league coaches I thank you for your huge effort and hope to see you again next year.

To all the players this club wouldn’t be in the strong position it is without your outstanding effort and commitment. Your efforts showed with Major League dropping just 3 games in the regular season. I look forward to seeing you all return next year and working towards improving as players and a club.

We have a fantastic group of supporters and I have to take this opportunity to thank you all. We have a sensational spirit in the club at the moment and you play a big role in this.

I would like to finish off with thanking a few more people. To Andrew Poole and the Belmont committee I would like to thank you for your support through the season.

Last but certainly not least I would like to thank Kerrie as I couldn’t do this without your fantastic support.

I look forward to seeing you all return next year for another successful and enjoyable season.

Cheers Stewart Bell Club Coach

In terms of the expectations of our club, this year has indeed been a tragic one performance wise, going down in the top three grades in our finals this year for the first time in some thirty years.

Winning is infectious in our club and up until Grand Final day we had certainly once again shown these qualities registering Minor premierships in 1st,2nd and 3rd grade. It is now history but the events of September erased all positives before it.

Despite this, the year produced many positives particularly the performance of many of our Junior players coming through. While many youngsters were provided an opportunity in the top grade, Adam Howe, Jace Poole, and Kyle Branscombe certainly grasp their opportunities and were rewarded with births in the 1st grade grand final. Adam Howe in particular had an outstanding season and was rewarded with the most improved player for the team, and contributed to three of our six hits in the big one

Mark Dries was once again potent in his defensive combination with short stop Adam Blight and magnificent with the stick also. He was rewarded with our Most Valuable Player award and we continue to marvel at his efforts.

Sadly this year sees our third major retirement over the past two years. Dave Rosser has been an outstanding ambassador to the club for many years now, travelling up from Sydney and continuing to be our leading pitcher, returning E.R.A’s of less than 2 for many seasons. This year at age 37, Doc was awarded with selection in the NSW Senior Team and excelled being named Claxton Shield “Rookie of the Year” at the tender age of 37. Doc you have been marvellous for this club and we thank you very, very much for your contribution.

At this point I would take the opportunity to thank all of our support staff. Club Coach Stewart Bell has been the life blood of Belmont on the field over the past few years, and undoubtedly his contribution has ensured we maintain the best program in Country Baseball. Thanks Belly.

My gratitude also goes to the additional coaching staff of Ian Hook (Pitching coach) and Paul Fathers (1st Base Coach) as well as scorers Anne-Louise Graham and Jenny Barclay. Thanks to the many bat boys we have had throughout the season, particularly Cameron Hose, and also to the great committee who runs this club.

Cess and Maxine, thank you for everything.

Finally I hope that the events of September 8 are indelible in everyone’s mind, and we do everything in the 2008 season to ensure it is never repeated.

Shane Barclay 1st Grade Manager.

The performance of this side was outstanding all season. They deserved to be minor premiers with the best quotient of any team in any grade. Fifteen games for 14 wins & 1 draw. Scored 152 runs and only conceded 23. Unfortunately the dream was spoilt with a 2 run to 1 loss in the grand final. Our development continues to be stifled due to our level being above other clubs and the more times we can play the stronger clubs the better.

The side had a good mixture of experience and youth, with only 1 player the wrong side of 30 and 5 of our 10 contributors in the grand final under 18. I express my thanks to our senior players; Nick, Boppa, Mattress, Kappa & Adza for their leadership in the dugout. Hopefully the young players enjoyed the involvement and learnt from the focus and will to win attitude.

Nick Bradley – produced an outstanding season with excellent offence and defence. A clear choice as MVP for his contributions. Even when recovering from his operation and not able to play, he contributed through leadership in the dugout. There is no “i” in team.

Scott Harrison – showed he possesses a great swing and improving all the time behind the plate. If he maintains focus has the potential to achieve higher success.

Steven Kapela – provided his usual strong offence with a sweet swing, even with opposite field shots. Defence is always solid and pitching is always strong.

Brad Sturgeon – still has one of the best sticks in the club. Played his best when the stronger opposition were challenging. It would have been good to have him at the end of the season but work comes first.

Matt Ireland – after coming back to us mid season he performed strongly in the field covering a host of infield positions. His pitching was always strong demonstrated by 4 innings for 0 runs in the grand final with a 73% strike ratio. His hitting was not as consistent as can be, let down by the impulse to muscle up.

Dean Thompson – another young player who filled in any gap the team needed. Hitting was reasonable and will benefit by leaving the high stuff.

Craig Fisher – joined us late in the season and brought a great attitude. Gave 100% always, whether hitting, fielding or base running.

Kyle Branscombe – provided good defence behind the plate and his bat got better as the season got longer. Rewarded with a spot in 1st grade at the end of year covering an injury.

Mal Harvey – great speed, some good hitting and bunting. Excellent job in the outfield with the most dangerous arm you can imagine. Everyone is alert when Mal has the ball.

Stephen Hook – alternated between 2nd & 3rd grade, but only because we are strong. He always pitched at a high level for us and was just too good in 3rd’s. Made a case to eliminate the use of a DH.

Ilan Laws – started with us but under the grading rules it was deemed necessary to go back to 3rd’s. His defence is always first class and his hitting when rejoining us late in the year was excellent.

Adam Herrera – only joined us for the finals but his attitude was great.

Matt Blaxland – always pitched quite well and was improving in understanding the benefit of being ahead in the count. Suffered injury troubles late in the year and unfortunately never joined the side again.

Belmont Baseball Club Inc. – 53rd Annual Report 13

My thanks go to those other players who also contributed to the team during the year. These were Chris Hook, Jace Poole, Luke Bryan, Chad Lewis, Matt Hawke, Barry Eade, Greg Smith, Dave Rosser, Shane Barclay and Adam Howe.

There are a series of people that need to be recognised for their help to the team. Firstly Kim Hook, our scorer, and Bill Kapela, my confidant, for their assistance every week. Their assistance served to make my job so much easier. The effort of Kim goes beyond belief when on the morning after the grand final I saw the result sheet and found that we actually won the match. Never say die.

The support provided by Stewart Bell as club coach and administratively by Maxine and Andrew Poole ensured off field dramas did not occur. This type of help continues to make us the strongest club in Newcastle.

To the future and the following statistics demonstrate the need for improvement before our young charges will become solid 1st grade performers.

2007 Season 2007 Athletics & Toronto Team Batting Average 0.333 0.221 Pitching ERA 1.57 2.53 Strike % 62% 60%

Hitting in particular is an area for improvement next season as the pitching is fine and will continue to get better as the individuals develop.

Only two players improved their season stats against the stronger clubs, Brad Sturgeon in hitting and Matt Ireland in pitching. Experience does help and we need to be able to rise to the occasion. As mentioned earlier, the more we can play the strong clubs the better.

In summary, another great year provided by our developing juniors and our not too old “veterans”. As a result I have thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Well this was my first year coaching a senior team and it was a very enjoyable year. We had a very productive year except for 1 game, which was the most important game, but apart from that game the boys performed well all year and fought right to the death in the grand final but we were just beaten by the better team on the day.

A special thanks to all the boys for a most enjoyable season, there was a mixture of youth and experience and all performed very well, especially the younger guys who showed that they are most capable of playing well higher than 3rd grade.

My job was made a lot easier with the group of elder statesman we have in our team, the likes of Lewy, Junior and Harris made life real easy by helping all the young guys out in tough situations and I think the young guys are very appreciative as am I.

Also a special thanks to my scorer Elese Poole who turned up ALMOST every weekend to score for me and like me most weekends was a little bit under the weather but I do appreciate everything she did during the year.

One last thing I would like to say is a Thank you to Belly who was the club coach this year, whenever I needed advice, help or anything else he was always there so yeah a special thanks should go to Belly for all his efforts.

Well I’m sure compared to all the other coaches reports, (mainly PI's) this is a pretty short report but the boys did really well this year both young and old and I can’t wait to come back next year and win 1 game more and take out the Grand Final.

As has frequently been the case of fourth grade in the past few years we had a streaky season. We dropped the first few games as we struggled to field a consistent team and numerous players had other commitments. However we eventually put it together with a win at White Sox. As we started to have a consistent team on the paddock we managed to get ourselves into a relatively good position in the middle of the pack. A couple of loses to Toronto back-to-back significantly dented our post season hopes. The two loses were combined with some of the worst umpiring decisions I have been involved in during my 20+ years in the game. However, never one to dwell on the past, this presented us with the difficult task of needing to win most of our remaining games. A couple more loses to Uni and then Phoenix made the task more difficult as we could only afford to drop one of our remaining six games. With the confidence of a team of champions we gave ourselves the best possible opportunity to reach the post-season. We touched up Nelson Bay (to the tune of 20 runs) at home and then backed it up with a hard fought one run game at Nelson Bay the following week. An under-performing Maitland were no match for us, although we did need to call on a number of fifth graders as our numbers significantly decreased (in some cases due to car problems, in others do to sexpo!!!). It eventually came down to our final two games against Sox. Having put 16 runs on them in the first game (courtesy of a 10 run first) we were feeling confident going into the final round. However unlike Colorado, we could not finish the streak. A lack lustre game to finish the season really did finish our season and give White Sox fourth spot. It was a sad way to end what had been a gutsy year for fourth grade. Unfortunately I have yet to taste grand final day in Belmont colours since joining the club in 2001 but feel that we have laid the foundations and with an extra player or two can go much further in 2008.

As for our players, most had very solid years. Sammy pitched his back-side off and in most cases our victories and tight games in the middle of the year are a testament to him. Particuarly the 6-5 victory at the Bay. Veg was solid and in some cases spectacular (running out triples!!!!). Axe performed admirably behind the plate when not at sexpo. Big Ecca played a few early games for us at first before disappearing, luckily this opened the door for our lazy leader to fill the role. Cassie earned her stripes and played solid second base and spent considerable time leading off for us, her ability to get on base, even if through being hit was an asset to the team. Jon was solid as always defensively and offensively. Hooky was good when there although he may be slowing down, his experience and guile is of significant benefit to the team. Dave Hamilton was a good addition to the team and his enthusiasm was much appreciated. Clarkey was as good as ever and if only his work had not robbed him of a few games we may have done more with the year. Lewis continued to contribute defensively and when focused offensively. Cailen had arguably his best year as he continued to show improvements with the bat and glove. Dangerous contributed to the team in his own unique way. While not always there on time, his heart was there for the team.

Our team was well supported by a large group of scorers (Hooky and fill ins such as Leoni) juniors who backed up for us and the parents and families of our players who got to witness both exciting and entertaining baseball and the less attractive forms of the game.

With the return of a few players and the addition of a couple of well suited fifth graders, I am confident that 2008 may just be the year of the fours????

All the best and thanks for the season

It is widely accepted in the NBA that fifth grade is where the ability challenged are sent to retire, and I am not to argue with those thoughts. We had some big injuries this year with a couple of the pups missing a substantial part of the season, this affected our depth somewhat and required some assistance from 4th and 6th ,many thanks to those involved. There were some outstanding individual performances by the whole team, but unfortunately the whole team didn’t have an individually outstanding performance. Jokes, excuses and statistics aside the 5th grade atmosphere was once again the catalyst for an extremely enjoyable season of baseball for all involved.

As usual the 2007 Hard Running 6th Graders were a pleasure to be involved with. With such a large squad we were always going to spend ample time on the bench, and introducing numerous new players meant we were always going to struggle early in the season. Having said all that the Hard-runners remained in contention for the semis right up until the last round, and I hope each and every player enjoyed the year. Fun moments were far too many to mention - suffice to say the Fine Tin hit a new record in 2007; and I certainly enjoyed sharing everyone’s company in our pursuit of emptying the tin. Special mention and thankyou to Leoni for scoring (may Wine immunity rule !!); and to our regular Saturday afternoon support crowd on the hill, I get the impression you enjoyed our antics as much as we did. I look forward to 2008.

Our juniors began the season off well all looking fantastic in their new navy blue uniforms. A recruitment drive around our local schools produced a good turn-out at our 2 Try-Baseball days and we fielded 6 junior teams in the competition. During the year we were successful in a bid to gain sponsorship from BaseballNSW for our Try-baseball program and this has resulted in 10,000 flyers and player incentives, so next season we intend to boost our player numbers by advertising our great club to a larger number of families within our community.

Once again we were presented with the Junior Club Championship trophy. This is a great achievement for the club and I would like to say a huge THANK-YOU to all the players, coaches and parents for the effort you have put in through-out the season.

We had 15 junior players selected to represent Newcastle this year: Congratulations to, Luke Bellamy who represented for the first time in the U10s, Cameron Hose, Alexander Wells, Matthew Reeves, Solomon Brown and Mitchell Palmer in Under12s, Lachlan Brown and Joshua Halpin in the Under 14s and Ben Lemon, Nick Clark, Brenton Woods, Jackson Marjoribanks, Sheldon Foster, Leigh Halpin, Dalton Dowden, and Cooper Thomas in the Under16s. Also Lauren Howe who represented in the womens team.

Many of these players went on to gain selection into the Country NSW squads and final teams. All the best to Jackson, Dalton, Sheldon and Brenton as they head to the Under 16 Nationals on the Gold Coast in January. We also had a number of players chosen in the Hunter Academy Squad and these players benefited from the extra training.

Due to the hard work of Tina our chocolate fundraiser was successful and we were able to purchase 2 Zooka machines and over the next seasons these will benefit our club immensely.

Thanks also to Matthew ‘Junior’ Hawke for his professional photography throughout the season.

To our coaches Phil, Peter, Cassie, Stewart, Sam and Ian, their assistants and band of helpers, thank-you for the dedication and time you have put in, the improvement shown by the kids is proof of your commitment. To Elizabeth, Chris, Lynette and Elese our friendly dedicated scorers you are also valuable members of this club. To Scott Foster who often helped with umpiring when we were short and to the parents who helped out in the canteen and on the BBQ thanks also.

Personally in closing I would like to thank the Hook family and Stewart for all the effort they have put into the weekly running of the junior competition and I hope I haven’t annoyed you all too much with my constant emails, we hope to soon have our own Belmont web-site up and running and next season you can each just log on to this site for all the information you need about the club.

See you in 2008.

The 2007 Season was a Champion Year for Belmont's U/8 and U/10 Teeball teams. Look over the lineup for each of them, and see the sort of talent our Major League teams will be fighting each other for in years to come:

Belmont U/8s Matthew Bates (Littlest Package No 1, big hitting lefty, strong arm!) William Bates (2007's Biggest Improver, look out Season '08!) Bailey Brandse (First to the game, last to leave!) Liam Brazel (Biggest heart in the game, "Energizer Bunny" doesn't know when to stop!) Matthew Chambers (Never stops trying!) Lachlan Ellis (Loves to drive it long down 1st base line!) Makalea Fennell (Chase 'em home, Mak!) Isaac Ireland ("Gimme the bat, I wanna hit!") Bailey Peters (Centrefield with a cannon for a throwing arm!) Theo Richardson (Littlest Package No 2, packs a big punch with the bat!) Elijah Spence (Littlest Package No 3 with enthusiasm to burn!) Brett Stevens (Future All Star Catcher!)

Belmont U/10s Luke Bellamy Jake Bawden (Mr Enthusiam!) Rhys Fennell (The story-teller!) Joshua Giudes Blayden Grew Andrew Hanlon Jack Ireland Jack Palmer (Look out, "The Freak" - this kid likes to hit the ball hard too!) Michael Stevens Kane Turner (Never gives up!!) Felix Van Bergen Samual Winpenny (The little guy "punching above his weight"!)

Our Wednesday training evenings were really well supported right through the season -I think 10 to 12 kids turned up on average each night. We should be able to do the same again next year - I've got a feeling there will be a few more kids wanting to be at training when they find out how much fun their mates had with the "Zooka" pitching machine at the last one!

Thanks to all of you little Teeball buddies for a great season that was thoroughly enjoyed by your coaches and friends at Belmont Baseball Club. Thanks very much to your Mums, Dads, family and friends who put in during the season and helped you have a fun time.

We feel very privileged to have come to know many of you this season, and look forward to coming back for more fun again next year.

Every year I have had the opportunity to learn more about baseball and the players.

This year I had the pleasure of coaching the under 12’s. They were a bunch of kids I found to be fun loving, happy and eager to learn. I enjoyed coaching every one of them. We had our good days and we had some shockers. On the shockers we learnt how to improve or blamed the weather as there were some cold ones in the beginning.

The team was made up of some old hands and a couple of players who were new to the game. Every game I saw them improving with some learning to hit the ball by the end of the season. They came together as a team and gave their all every week and this was rewarded by making it into the semi-finals. Even though we didn’t win on the day they made me very proud to be their coach as they didn’t give up at any time. They were the winners on the day.

The team was made up of Solomon Brown, Alexander Wells, Tegan Newham, Cameron Hose, Elijh Roxby, Matthew Reeves, Ben Reeves, Mitchell Palmer, Grant Harris, Ellen Whitford & Mitchell Hyham. Six of these players went on to represent Newcastle in the under 12’s – Solomon Brown, Alexander Wells, Cameron Hose and Mitchell Palmer, Matthew Reeves and Bat-Boy Ben Reeves.

I would like to thank the kids and parents for another great year and hope that they also had a fun season. I hope everyone learnt something new and we will see you all back next season.

Thank you to the umpires that gave their time to come and make sure the kids got to play. Another person I would like to thank is my Mum for scoring all year.

My Assistant Coach was Belinda Butler.

We had a very inexperienced team this year and with that in mind the main goal for the season was to help all players in both skills and general knowledge. While working towards this we certainly did have plenty of fun. On the playing field our biggest problem was consistency as week to week our standard could range from playing well above our ability to the next week playing well below our best. To the parents we really appreciate all the running around you did getting the players to training and games. Through the year we had approximately 5 scorers so to those who offered to do the scoring during the year thank you very much for your time. Finally to the players thank you for a great season. We hope you learnt a lot about this fantastic game, you enjoyed your season and will be back next season. Good luck to you in the future.

The Belmont Sporties were successful in taking out the Minor premiership but we went down in the grand final 8 runs to 4 to our other Belmont side the Seagulls. In a year where we lost two games the first and the last both to the Seagulls. Four times the two teams played each other for a two / two split. The club showed by picking two even team we can all have some fun and both be successful. The two teams were built around some experienced players and some rookies. All combining well with each other with both teams training together on Wednesday nights.

On behalf of the team I would like to thank Elese Poole who scored and Glen Howe assist coach. As well all the parents who come along on Saturday mornings and supported these young ball players enjoying themselves.

To the girls and boys who made up this side I would like to thank you for making this an enjoyable season. It was a pleasure to be around these kids I hope to see them all back next season either in juniors or in senior’s teams with our club good luck for the rest of your careers.

A great start to my first year in coaching and I couldn’t be any more happier. Coaching a team with great skills and awesome co-operation both on and off the field was a buzz, and winning the grand final against the other Belmont team was even better. Would like to start off by saying that the team I was coaching has outstanding talent and perfect teamwork skills. Some individual players such as Sheldon Foster, Nick Clark, Dalton Dowden and Ben Lemon helped the team with every at bat and pitch and were the key players in the team. Other players such as Brett Dixon, Chris Herbert, Dan Wilson, Scott Walker, Jack Wilkinson and Perrin Matheson played a big role each game by stepping up when needed and getting us the play we wanted. Running the bases, hitting the ball, making the plays and other little things were just too easy for these kids and I just hope that these kids turn up next year and expect another championship because a team like this makes any coach happy. Coming into the end of the season, the boys started to take the game a bit too easy, and as a result, we started losing. But the boys began working as a team again to help themselves come back and keep in form in time for the final, they deserved to get what they got after a win in the grand final. Although we were VERY lucky to win the final against Boomers when we were down by 1, with 5 minutes left in the game, but we didn’t give up and won by 1 run putting us through to the big grand final. The boys were ahead the whole game in the grand final giving us the championship. I would like to thank my scorer, Lynette Lemon, my assistant coach, Kim Hook, the parents for taking the kids to the games and a big special thanks to the boys for making my first season as coach such a great success and earning yourselves and myself our first championship. I will be coaching next season so I hope to see everyone there.
