Discover What’s New at Your Library Vol. 13 ◊ Issue 4 July/August 2012 Summer Reading Kick-off The kick off for Summer Reading 2012 was held at the Eaton Branch on Saturday, June 2 for all the children of Preble County! The Brukner Nature Center was on hand to make the event extra special. The children saw a variety of nocturnal animals, including a possum and an owl! Over 90 children and parents were on hand to make this year’s first ever kick-off event for Summer Reading a great success! How’s it going? Eaton Branch Summer Reading Overview The Eaton Summer Reading Program is going great this year! The first week we offered 3 programs with 332 people attend- ing. The second week we held 2 programs with 288 people attending. We have been very busy every day since the program started and I would like to thank the circ desk staff for all the hard work they have put in this year. They are a big part of the success we are having this summer. Also I would like to thank the public for their continued support, making Brukner Nature Center Program Preble County Summer Reading Kick-off! my job so much easier. Teresa Deaton, Youth Services Looking Ahead - Family Fun Night at Eaton Branch West Alexandria Library G et ready for another great “Family Fun Night”? The Eaton Library will host Steven’s Puppets from Fort Wayne, Indiana on Thursday Sept. 20th at 6:30. The marionettes are hand carved and painted. The show we will be presenting is Beauty and the Beast, a favorite among children of all ages. Steven’s Puppets has been doing Peace Park, West Alexandria, OH marionettes for over half a century. The voices are by profes- sional actors accented by harp music. This will be a chance for the children of Preble County to see live theater. Book Sale News: The Eldorado Branch of the Preble Did you know that stuffed animals and other toys can be checked out from your local library as well? The Jacob's Ladder Program provides a free meal for these area children. Currently the Eaton Library has about 25 children coming for these meals offered in the children's programming area. Michael Koryta (pronounced ko-ree-ta), bestselling author of the Lincoln Perry mystery series, as well as other suspense-filled thrillers, will soon break new ground when his book, The Cypress House will be adapted for film. Last year, well-known director Chris Columbus’s production company, 1492, op- tioned Koryta’s thriller novel. Columbus will write the script and also direct the film.
