Assessment of Water Quality of Lungding Stream Through Biomonitoring
International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR) ISSN: 2319-7064 Index Copernicus Value (2016): 79.57 | Impact Factor (2017): 7.296 Assessment of Water Quality of Lungding Stream through Biomonitoring Nilu Paul1, A. K. Tamuli2, R. Teron3, J. Arjun4 1Department of Zoology, Lumding College, Lumding, Assam, India 2Department of Life Science and Bioinformatics, Assam University Diphu Campus, Diphu, Assam, India 3Department of Life Science and Bioinformatics, Assam University Diphu Campus, Diphu, Assam, India 4Department of Zoology, Lumding College, Lumding, Assam, India Abstract: Stream ecosystem biomonitoring has been widely used to assess the status of water. It provides information on the health of an ecosystem based on which organisms live in a waterbody. The benthic community is dependent on its surrounding and therefore, it serves as an indicator that reflects the overall condition of the ecosystem. Among the commonly used biomoniting approaches, biotic indices and multimetric approaches are most frequently used to evaluate the environment health of streams and rivers. The macro invertebrate fauna and physico-chemical parameters of Lungding stream of Dima Hasao district were studied seasonally from March 2017 to February 2018. A total of 13 species of benthic invertebrate fauna belonging to three phyla (Annelida, Arthropoda and Mollusca), five classes (Hirudinea, Gastropoda, Bivalvia, Crustacea, Insecta) and thirteen families (Hirudinidae, Physidae, Anomidae, Gammaridae,Panaediae, Baetidae Aeshnidae, Belostometidae, Hydrophilidae, Chaoboridae, Chironomidae) were found in the Lungding stream during the study. Gastropoda was predominant (23.71 %) followed by Crustacea, Bivalvia and Hirudinidae with percentage composition of 19%, 16.59% and 11.42% respectively. Among Insects, Dipteran midges (Chaoboridae) with 8.84% were the dominant group. -
Devolution Fund for PRI &
STATEMENTS SHOWING DETAILED ALLOCATION FOR GENARAL AREAS FOR EACH YEAR PERID 2007- 08 TO 2009-10 UNDER AWARD OF THE TFC SFC CELL UNDER FINANCE (EA) DEPARTMENT GOVT. OF ASSAM, BLOCK –F, DISPUR, ASSAM Note on the allocation framework The TFC earmarked funds for Local Bodies among the States as per inter-se allocation formula assigned by the TFC, but the allocation of funds among the various Local Bodies and also those in excluded areas of the States was left to the discretion of the respective State Government. In regard to inter-se distribution of grants under the award of TFC among the PRIs & ULBs in General Areas, the Government of Assam has adopted the formula enunciated by the Third Assam State Finance Commissions for the years 2007-08 to 2009-10. Since the State Cabinet already approved the inter-se distribution formula among the each unit of PRIs and ULBs enunciated by the TASFC, the Chairman of the HLC has accepted the same formula for distribution of TFC grants for Local Bodies for the period 2007-08 to 2009-10. As the sixth scheduled areas of Assam being outside the purview of SFCs, the principles of inter-se distribution as recommended by TASFC are not applicable to such areas. Hence, in order to extend the benefits of TFC award to the excluded areas. i.e. KAAC, NCAC and BTC, the Government of Assam has decided to apportion the amount of TFC grants between the General and Sixth Schedule Areas in the following manner. It has been decided to allocate the TFC grants to BTC and the Autonomous District Councils of Karbi Anglong and N.C Hills on the same principle as in case of allocation of State Plan outlay. -

4. The Brahmaputra River 4.1 Introduction The Brahmaputra Basin which has derived its name from the Brahmaputra River is one of the most densely populated river basins in the world. It is located at a longitude of 82°-97°east and latitude of 21°-31° north . This basin covers an estimated population of seven hundred million people of China, India, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The Brahmaputra river is considered as an international river and traverses through several countries . It originates from the Kanglung Kang glaciers east of Manas Sarovar which is at an elevation of 5150 m. In Tibet where the upper course of the river is located, it travels 1625 km and then enters Indian territory through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It traverses 278 km in Arunachal Pradesh and 640 km in Assam. A total number of fifty nine tributaries are received by this river, twenty two in Tibet , thirty three in India and three in Bangladesh. Dutta (2001) says, “closer to its source it is known as the mutsung tsangpo, then the moghung tsangpo and finally the tsangpo while Chinese maps have it as the yarlu tsangpo-brahmaputra,"( as cited in The Assam Tribune, Nov 4, 2001). In Tibet the river is called by the name of Tsangpo and Yarlung Zangbo in China. In India it is known as the Brahmaputra, and Jamuna in Bangladesh. One of the major rivers of the world, the Brahmaputra is described , ‘ A river extraordinaire, the Brahmaputra presents a picture of awesome expanse, enchanting grandeur , over whelming sobriety and immense vigour' . (Goswami 2008, pp.
