The actions published in the LEAP are supplemental to our everyday work on monitoring, surveying and regulating to protect the environment. Some of the key achievements on our everyday work include: i) In September 1998 Michael Clapham MP officially opened the Bullhouse Minewater Treatment Plant. The scheme is a pioneering £1.2m partnership project funded by European Commission, Coal Authority, Environment Agency, Hepworths Building Products, Barnsley MBC and Yorkshire Water. Within one week a visible reduction could be seen in ochre levels in the River Don, after more than 100 years of pollution. ii) Monckton Coke and Chemical Company have successfully commissioned a combined heat and power plant, costing approximately £7 million.

The two enter into the legend at around the same time. Latest articles. Retrieved 4 May Although the book has the appearance of a thick picture book, the text is really much longer and suitable for a more mature audience. Hunter developed a fairly detailed theory implying that Robert Hood had been an adherent of the rebel Earl of Lancaster , who was defeated by Edward II at the Battle of Boroughbridge in Coss, S. A twelve-year old boy discovers a human skull under the roots of a huge oak tree his favourite that has just been blown over in a storm. Marion is a cagot, an albino. The young boy finding the horn, arrow and stick were nice touches, connecting the two separate time settings together physically, as did the tree near the end. Showing In the 19th century, the Robin Hood legend was first specifically adapted for children. Pyle's Robin Hood is a yeoman and not an aristocrat. He first appeared in a 17th-century broadside ballad , and unlike many of the characters thus associated, managed to adhere to the legend. Jan 04, bkjunkie rated it really liked it Shelves: kindle-shelf. Instead, the moniker seems to have become a typical alias used by outlaws in various periods and locations across England. A titan of literature, children all over the planet love and devour his books.

  • Lancashire and the Legend of Robin Hood
Lancashire and the Legend of Robin Hood. W. T. W. Potts The common belief that Robin Hood robbed the rich to help the poor arose from an incident in the Lyttell Geste of Robyn Hode, the earliest version of the cycle of Robin Hood stories. In the Lyttell Geste Robin lends a Sir Richard at the Lee £400 in order that he may redeem his estate from the Abbot of St. Mary’s Abbey, York. Sir Richard had mortgaged his estate in order to help his son who “slewe a knyght of Lancaster and a squyer bolde.” (Verse 53) Several of the incidents in the Lyttell Geste reflect historic events in northern England during the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries, in modern terms, some of the tales are ‘faction’. Previous attempts to identify any historical persons or events behind Sir Richard have been unsuccessful but it will be suggested here that persons and events with the parish of Lea, a few miles west of Preston, Lancs, about this time, provide interesting parallels to the story and suggest that the Sir Richard stories are also faction. Although Robin Hood is popularly associated with Nottingham, many of the stories in the Lyttell Geste take place in Yorkshire and Lancashire, particularly in the Honours of Pontefract and Clitheroe, estates which belonged to the Lacy family in the early fourteenth century and it is likely that the stories were first composed by minstrels for the entertainment of that family.1 The Lyttell Geste was one of the first popular tales printed for the common people.

  • Reading Sheet
Reading Sheet Robin Hood and the Potter One day, an unsuspecting potter came to Sherwood Forest. For many months, the potter had toiled by his wheel crafting beautiful clay pots and jugs. Now, on his horse and cart, the craftsman was taking his wares to sell in Nottingham. On his journey, he had been keeping an eye out for thieves and bandits. However, once he entered Sherwood Forest, he was to encounter the greatest bandits of all and their leader: Robin Hood. Robin Hood had not always been an outlaw. In times long past he had been a titled individual. But the new sheriff of Nottingham was a cruel man. Robin could not stand silently and watch the tyrant ruin the lives of the people he ruled. As Robin opposed the sheriff, he was forced to leave his lands and shelter in the forest. From there, he continued his fight, gradually gathering a band of followers to help him in his battles. Sherwood Forest was theirs; any rich merchants who ventured within these wooded lands were soon relieved of money and goods. These were then shared out amongst the poor of Nottingham. Anyone else was required to pay a toll if they wished to cross Robin’s domain. It was Little John, one of Robin’s men, who first noticed the potter approach. “I know that potter…” he said, screwing up his face as he tried to recall a previous meeting. “Yes,” said Robin “ and we shall know his money too, soon enough.” “Do not be so certain, Robin,” Little John counselled his friend, “I met him at Wentbridge many moons ago.
