You can be assured that I am committed to ensuring that this will be a memorable and enjoyable event. I regard our club as one big family, where individuals may have and indeed do have different approaches and ideas, but I know that we all 'Seek a happy and successful organisation. To this end I think it appropriate to look back over the club's history and appreciate the progress made. The basin has been transformed from a mud hole to a desirable marina, slip facilities are the best around, fuelling installations are second to none, the clubhouse and galley continue to improve and now we actually own the field and wood. All this is entirely due to the foresight of founder members, and the continuous efforts of past and present members. I make no apologies in asking once again for the full support of members at least equal to that received in the past and preferably greater. Without a full commitment from the membership your committee and Flag Officers are severely handicapped in their efforts to manage a successful club. With the coincidence of our 25th Anniversary and The National Rally at Wakefield we shall no doubt be having a larger number of visitors than usual. I hope we can extend a warm welcome to our guests. Hopefully we can foster good relations with other boaters and clubs which can only be to our mutual benefit. In making any visitors feel at home don't be too modest, let's be proud of our club, and at the same time promote the many assets of our cruising areas. Finally I don't wish to loose sight of the fact that we are all here for pleasure. If you have already had your major cruise I trust it was trouble free and enjoyable, if yours is yet to come may it be the best yet. To all our members I wish the rest of the season to be happy and eventful. Good cruising! 3 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• • • r-----------------, : Damien & Jenny · : . In the mid sixties in South Yorkshire there was a lack of boat clubs, Stanilands and Thorne Light Craft had recently formed clubs and Stockwith had come into being. Factions at Stanilands and Thorne were becoming dissatisfied and a meeting of interested persons was convened at the Salutation Hotel, Doncaster on 8th December 1966. It was decided to call the proposed new club South Yorkshire Boat Club and several sites were discussed including the present Straw- berry Island Boat Club and sites at Stainforth, Bramwith, Sprotborough and Heck. Officers were elected: Commodore Tom May, Chairman J. Mulligan and Secretary Keith Warner. At the next meeting at the Green House Hotel on 9th February 1967 there were thirty prospective members present, of the five sites only Strawberry Island and Heck were considered possible and the majority favoured Heck. Six committee members were elected and other Officers, - President J.H.Peters, Treasurer D Flannagan, Vice commodore H.
