All rights reserved. Administrative History: The first official intercollegiate athletic competition involving WKU was a baseball game with rival Eastern Kentucky University. Western won the game 6-0 played in Bowling Green in 1910. Football and basketball followed in 1913 and 1914 respectively. World War I and World War II interrupted WKU athletics from 1916-1921 and again from 1943-1945. The first women's athletic event for WKU was a basketball game in 1914. Women's basketball competition was suspended from 1916 to 1920; started again in 1921 and halted from 1932 until it began again in 1974. An overall athletics program for
