Western won the game 6-0 played in Bowling Green in 1910. Football and basketball followed in 1913 and 1914 respectively. World War I and World War II interrupted WKU athletics from 1916-1921 and again from 1943-1945. The first women's athletic event for WKU was a basketball game in 1914. Women's basketball competition was suspended from 1916 to 1920; started again in 1921 and halted from 1932 until it began again in 1974. An overall athletics program for women got its first official push in 1973, with the start of golf and tennis.
