NOTES: The PFL records on this page reflect PFL penalties imposed against Jacksonville (# - vacated 30 wins during the 2010-14 seasons) and San Diego (% - vacated 7 wins during the 2013 season). In accordance with NCAA policy, the wins and ties, but not the losses, of the penalized team are dropped from its PFL record only. WWW.PIONEER-FOOTBALL.ORG PAGE 13 2019 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEKLY REPORT and participated in the 2015 FCS playoffs while making defense a hallmark of the program. STETSON’S HUGHES EARNS CONTRACT EXTENSION Coming off the best season in more than 65 years, Stetson football coach Rog- er Hughes was rewarded with a contract extension that will keep him on the Hatters sideline through at least the 2021 season. Hughes, who has guided the Stetson football program since 2011 when he was charged with leading the program onto the field after more than 50 years without a team, was named Pioneer Football League Coach of the Year in 2018. DRAKE NAMES STEPSIS HEAD COACH , the architect of the Drake football team’s nationally-ranked de- fense, was named the head coach of the Drake football team in December. He takes the reins of the Bulldogs’ program after serving as the program’s de- fensive coordinator for the past five seasons under previous head coach Rick Fox, who resigned his position. As the defensive coordinator, Stepsis built the Drake defense into one of the nation’s top units and coached a total of 42 all- conference selections including the program’s all-time leading tackler and the 2018 PFL Defensive Player of the Year, Nathan Clayberg. PFL’S 27TH CAMPAIGN The 2019 season marks the 27th year for the Pioneer Football League – the nation’s only non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdi- vision conference. The league will feature 10 teams each playing an eight-game schedule to determine the league champion and recipient of the automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA FCS Championship. PRESBYTERIAN TO JOIN PFL IN 2021 In 2019, the Pioneer Football League Commissioner presidents’ council agreed to accept Presbyterian College’s request for membership, effective for the 2021 season. Presbyterian College’s football program will remain a Big South mem- ber for the 2019 season while continuing to phase out scholarships in order to obtain PFL eligibility. The Blue Hose will play one season as a Division I indepen- dent in 2020 before joining the PFL in 2021.
