His current major research projects include a catalogue of the 17th-century drawings of mediaeval (including Byzantine) antiquities which formed part of Cassiano dal Pozzo’s ‘Museo cartaceo’; and a study of the influence of Byzantium on Italian sculpture of the 8th and 9th centuries. The former is supported by a SSHRCC Research Grant, the latter by the Venice Fellowship jointly sponsored by Dumbarton Oaks and the Istituto Ellenico di Studi Bizantini in Venice.
