Abraham Ahmed Aboraya Freelance Writer and Photographer Objective : To be challenged by new editors and strict deadlines; to journalistically grow Employment Freelance Writer, Dec. 2008-Current Knight Newspapers, Turnstile Publishing, Orlando, Fla. I work for four newspapers, acting as a beat reporter for Oviedo and Winter Springs, as well as covering a variety of story types for other newspapers. News Editor 2007-Dec. 2008 Knight Newspapers, Orlando, Fla. My main job priority was working with the Seminole Chronicle, where I acted as a beat reporter for the city of Winter Springs, covering local government and politics. I also covered general news assignments, writing features, business stories, school stories, lifestyle pieces and in-depth features. I would also regularly write editorial stances and occasional columns. In addition to writing, I acted as a photographer and copy editor. I edited stories for content, grammar and AP style. I write headlines, captions and info graphics, and I organize sections. I also work with graphic artists to design sections. Editor-in-Chief 2005-’07 Central Florida Future , Orl ando, Fla. In addition, I worked as the editorial adviser for the Central Florida Future, an award-winning, independent student publication covering the University of Central Florida. I coached story ideas, worked in management (responsible for payroll and staffing) and trained new editors. Intern, Metro Desk Fall, 2005 Florida Today Melbourne, Fla. I began working in summer 2005 as a staff writer for the Future, and was first hired as an Opinions Editor. From there, I worked my way to News Editor and then Editor-in-Chief. During my tenure, I wrote numerous articles and assigned countless more. I came in second place in the Southeast region for the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence award in the breaking news category. During that same period, the Future came in second place in the Southeast for overall quality in the non-daily category, and five more of my writers and columnists received awards. Some are now nationally competing. While concurrently working full-time in production for Florida Today and as Opinions Editor for the Central Florida Future, worked as an intern on the Metro Desk, covering breaking news events (including one shooting and a wild fire). "Rightwriter," a grammar checker and readabilitycomputer program, was used to evaluate frontpage articles for each of the eight newspapers. Thereadability formulas invokedin the readability program included the Flesch-Kincaid,Flesch, and FOG indexes. indicated that the Results average readability levels of theindividual newspapers ranged from 9.37 to 14.68 usingthe Flesch-Kincaid, 10.28 to 15.78 using FOG. A rankorder correlation of the three pairs of the tests possible was statistically significant forall pairs. Findings suggest that each of the papers (except thecollege paper) should consider encouraging its reporters and editorsto write articles that are more easily understood by theirtarget population. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Each year, the university must submit an updated capital improvement plan to the Board of Governors. This plan identifies projects that will be included in the three-year Public Education Capital Outlay list, and it provides information to the State Board of Education for its request for capital project funding for 2017-18. The capital improvement plan must be submitted to the Board of Governors’ staff by August 1, 2016.
