Can the Miz Reach the Top Without a World Title Run? Can The Miz Reach The Top Without A World Title Run? Author : @TheInscriberMag If there is one thing that Mike Mizanin can do, it's cut a promo. The WWE superstar known as "The Miz" hit the nail on the head Monday night when he emphatically stated that both John Cena and Roman Reigns have been given an opportunity after opportunity to carry the torch for the company that made them both mega superstars. Like most cases, his words led to a confrontation with both baby faces in the ring – with Samoa Joe as his partner in the main event. The current Intercontinental champion carries the banner for WWE's mid card on Monday nights. The company may have changed his gimmick a bit – taking his beautiful wife Maryse out of the equation - and paring him with Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas, but it is the same wrestler who uses his many gifts on the microphone to incite WWE's universe. It is doubtful there will be another world title opportunity for The Miz in the near future. His best role right now is serving as the company’s chief antagonist – with Kevin Owens a close second. He also will have a stake in helping put Reigns over, which has been the Achilles' heel of this company the past three years. 1 / 2 Chris Jericho is the master at using both his talent in and out of the ring to promote talent. A J Styles, Kevin Owens, and Dean Ambrose all benefited from working with the six-time WWE Champion. It's possible The Miz could become Monday nights "go to guy" much like Jericho. Since last year’s brand split, there have been few performers who have benefitted from the change as The Miz has done. After watching the promo to open Monday night – where Cena and Reigns confront each other, only to be interrupted by the "A-lister" and then Samoa Joe, fans immediately got an earful of The Miz’s brilliance. It has become obvious to a fault WWE wants to see the 16-time world champion, and the man who cannot win over crowds, in an arena to clash in a mega match for the ages. I believe WWE would be better served if Reigns and The Miz tangled with each other for a bit before such an event. Joe needs a dance partner, and after reading many rumors over the past few weeks, Cena would be the perfect opponent. If Cena puts Joe over before the company pushes him toward a main event program with the Universal Title on the line, there is no doubt in my mind he will be champion – possibly before the end of the year. WWE created magic Monday night off the heels of a successful SummerSlam pay-per-view. Now the company that has had issues building momentum at times this year, has a golden opportunity to give fans what they want and to create another historic match. The Miz may not be part of the main event involving Cena and Reigns, but he sure as heck can be a contributing factor to it becoming an instant classic. That's the perfect role for an "actor " in this situation. And right now, nobody does it better than the intercontinental champion. 2 / 2 Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org).

Honey, Master of Science Utah State University, 2020 Major Professor: Dr. Eric César Morales Program: American Studies This paper examines the shifting portrayals of Pacific Islanders in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) across three generations. As both a popular and historically racially problematic venue, WWE’s politically incorrect programming has played an underappreciated and under examined role in representing the USA. Although 4 many different groups have been portrayed by gross stereotypes in WWE, this paper uses the family of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson—the Samoan Dynasty—as a case study. The WWE originally presented Pacific Islanders using the most offensive stereotypes, and the first two generations of the Samoan Dynasty had to “play Indian” or cosign onto gross representations of their people to be recognized by American audiences unfamiliar with representations of Pacific Islanders.

383945_74233_CCM_2020_Annual_Report_v6_CVR_NARR_R1.indd 1-3 3/25/21 11:49 PM WWE THUNDERDOME DEBUTED ON SMACKDOWN FROM THE AMWAY CENTER ON AUGUST 21 TO OUR SHAREHOLDERS In 2020, WWE was confronted with unprecedented challenges as a global pandemic impacted our ability to produce content and engage with fans. While many of our peers across the sports and entertainment landscape shut down, WWE responded by adapting our business model to allow for the safe and uninterrupted production of content; and with WWE ThunderDome, recreated the spectacle our fans have come to expect. We capitalized on the growth in digital consumption to introduce new products and expanded our presence on existing and new platforms, which led to record-breaking digital engagement. Our success culminated with the recent announcement of a multi-year WWE Network domestic licensing agreement with Peacock, NBCU’s streaming service, achieving a key strategic priority and highlighting the value of the WWE brand. WWE achieved strong financial results in 2020, including record profits, driven by the increase in rights fees from our U.S. distribution agreements. Our results also reflected the implementation of short-term cost reductions and cash flow improvement actions, which substantially offset the impact of COVID-19 on our business and strengthened our financial position. As we look ahead, we continue to believe that WWE has significant long-term growth potential; is well-positioned to execute on its strategic priorities including content creation and distribution, product innovation and international expansion; and to drive long-term shareholder value. WWE NETWORK SECURES DISTRIBUTION ON NBCU’S PEACOCK In January 2021, we entered into a multi-year agreement to license WWE Network content in the U.S.

  • WWE, Fans Win with a Freud Between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan
WWE, Fans Win With A Freud Between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan Author : David Levin As odd as it sounds, the wrestler who will be most affected by the return of Daniel Bryan’s wrestling career could be Roman Reigns. The soon-to-be Universal Champion is finally winning over part of the WWE Universe, but that all could change with two words... Superstar Shakeup. If WWE decides to flip the script and make major roster changes following WrestleMania 34, Bryan could move to Monday night, which would end any momentum Reigns has after taking down Brock Lesnar. Reigns is everything Bryan is not. And while he has the look and the pedigree to be a champion many times over, he is not charismatic enigma fans hope for. You have to look to Seth Rollins or John Cena or Bryan for that kind of engagement. WWE has built Reigns to be this mega force, the man who is Superman and The Hulk wrapped into one character in Kevlar. At first, when Reigns was part of The Shield, it worked. But at the height of popularity, when fans wanted change, something happened. Daniel Bryan happened. Chris Featherstone explains it in his story on inquisitr.com. “While WWE has Reigns compete as a babyface, the fans have heavily jeered him in over the past few years. With excuses such as “he can’t wrestle” or “he’s getting shoved down our throats” being a common theme, 1 / 2 former WWE Creative member Bruce Prichard revealed the first moment when Reigns’ ovation started to shift from negative to positive.” Reigns has been “the guy” the past four WrestleMania events including this year.
