These engines are mainly used in narrowboats and other shallow draft boats that frequently sail in area’s with limited depth. Also handy in shallow coastal waters where seaweed, algea, mud, sand and silt can be a problem. When sailing a boat in water with limited depth, lots of debris, sand and other particles will float around and can potentially block the raw water system of an intercooled engine. The solution is to add a keelcooler to the bottom of the boat. Heat transfer takes place in the keelcooling coil that is mounted underneath the hull of the vessel below the waterline, instead of pumping raw water through the engine-mounted heat exchanger. Only the cooling liquid will be pumped around through the engine and keelcooler element by the engine wa- ter pump. No need for an external waterpump. As the exhaust will be dry, it requires heat resistant components. No plastic components can be used anymore. aa.251.20000 aa.301.20000 aa.451.20000 CM2.16 keelcooling bobtail CM3.27 keelcooling bobtail CM4.42 keelcooling bobtail These engines can be supplied with the same gearboxes as the intercooled engines.
