THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO THE COUNTERS !!

Changes are inevitable. The number of valid count sites decreased from 211 in 2016 to 171 for 2017. Hopefully, Perlis will participate in this nationwide survey as other states have since 2010. On the bright side, there are 4 count sites in the northern state of Kelantan.

107 SPECIES RECORDED

4,049 SIGHTED

6 NEW SPECIES ADDED TO THE LIST Although these are not our common garden species, it shows that people are surveying a variety of habitats.

The top 10 species found in our gardens and parks remain the same although their position in terms of average numbers recorded saw some changes. The Javan fell from No. 3 to No. 6, but is still ahead of the , which fell one position to No. 7. The analysis on Common and Javan Myna population trend in Central Region (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya) showed the same trend as last year. The Javan Myna is thought of as the more aggressive species, which is the reason why it has been able to expand its range at the expense of our 2 local myna species, the Common Myna and .

*Figures are based on the average number of birds per site

We wish you very birdful months ahead. Go on and share the joys of birdwatching with your friends and family, so that more areas in the country may be surveyed in the years to come— consistency counts. The dates for the 2018 survey will be announced in January.
