Page 3-1 2007 Texas State Drill Championships Event Logistics Venue Information & Parking The TSDC will be held at Reed Arena on the campus of Texas A&M University. This facility is “state of the art” and gorgeous. It is an HONOR that they will host this JROTC event. Schools will not find a more luxurious drill facility in use anywhere in the country. Schools will park in the WEST parking lot of Reed Arena and enter the building through the WEST doors. Acres of vacant paved parking areas will be available for drill practice throughout the day on Friday weather permitting. No indoor practice areas are available for this meet anywhere inside Reed Arena.

Schools should familiarize themselves with the drill area diagrams on the website. The main floor will accommodate four drill areas (Regulation & Exhibition events). Meeting rooms on the 2nd floor will accommodate Inspection prep rooms and Inspection drill areas. The lower level gymnasium will be used for both Color Guard events. Team Pictures will be taken on the 3rd floor. There is a main concourse that wraps around the main floor that will be used by spectators to reach all access points for all of these areas. Cadet Behavior Teams are to be on their best behavior while at the competition. This facility is contracted for the TSDC and in order to utilize Texas A&M University facilities in future years we need to return the building in better condition than when we received it. Running around or rough-housing, etc. will not be tolerated. Cadets are directed to remain inside Reed Arena throughout the event. Any cadet leaving the facility for any reason (i.e., go to the bus for equipment, etc.) MUST be accompanied by an INSTRUCTOR. Concessions Reed Arena will have concession stands running throughout most of the day. No outside food or beverages can be brought into the building (except for ice & water in coolers). There will be a scheduled lunch break during the day. Schools are welcome to leave the Arena for lunch, but are strongly encouraged to know where they plan to go and allow enough driving/parking/eating time. Package Distribution As noted on the Event Schedule, all team package materials (shirts & medallions) will be distributed from the Texas State Drill Championships Registration Desk from 0730 - 0900 hours. Schools must go through Event Registration and have their packages picked up by 0900 hrs. Please plan to arrive in time to register before your first event. See diagram for location of the Registration Area. Performance Boards You will be issued performance boards when you receive your team package materials at registration for your team’s use during the competition. These boards are not for you to keep and must be returned in excellent condition before you will receive your photographs or scoresheets. They are to be placed on the easels by the drill area entrance just prior to your team’s performance, which allows spectators to identify your team. They need to be removed immediately following your performance. We ask that while you are sitting in the stands that you display the sign by propping it on a seat. This allows us to quickly identify schools from a distance in case we need to contact you and can assist in the reduced use of the Public Address system. When you are finished competing, please turn in the performance board to the Information Desk. All performance boards should be turned in prior to the Knockout Drills. Team Pictures As a part of your team package, all schools will have team pictures taken on site. In preparation for this, schools must have filled out the Team Picture Form (page 2-3) prior to arriving at Event Registration. You will also have a designated time for your team to have their team picture taken. Prior to actually having your picture taken, schools must turn in their Team Picture Form at the Event Registration desk. Therefore schools are encouraged to be aware of this requirement and be sure to get to Registration for their package materials immediately upon arrival at the event. The photographs will be printed on-site during the event and should be available for distribution following the Awards Ceremony that evening. Should there be any technical difficulties during the event; the photos will be mailed to schools within 7 days after the event.

Event Logistics / continued Dressing Rooms Teams should come prepared for the competition in uniform. There are no changing facilities. Videotaping at the Competition Schools are permitted to videotape the competition, provided they do not need access to electrical outlets (BRING CHARGED BATTERY PACKS). While everyone will be given access to film the competition, any and all professional filming being done by SNI or the press in general will have priority in locations from which to film. Please inform your parents in advance that they are not allowed to utilize the building’s electricity. Texas State Drill Championships Information & Headquarters Desk If you have any questions regarding the competition site, where drill areas are, where to sit, get pictures taken, etc., please do not hesitate to ask SNI staff....that is why we are here. Specifically, there will be an Information Desk set up near the scoring tables (see map for location) where you can have all of your questions answered. Lost & Found Should you find anything while at the event, please turn it in to Lost & Found at the Information Desk. Should you lose anything, please check with Lost & Found before leaving the arena. Judging Criteria Questions Should any cadet commander or instructor have questions regarding the judging criteria for an event or the interaction with any judge at the TSDC, these questions should be directed only to the Judging Director, Justin Gates. Please do not interrupt the competition process by directing your questions to the active judges, and please address the issue at hand immediately (do not wait to bring a question to the attention of the Judging Director ... it is always best to answer questions while it is fresh in everyone's mind). Interaction with Judging Staff The active duty judges at the competition are encouraged to interact with the cadets at the event (one of the reasons these judges attend the TSDC is to communicate the benefits of the military and to answer questions from interested cadets). The judging staff has been strictly instructed as to the proper protocol for interacting with cadets as well as instructors, i.e., no discussion of any matters pertaining to the Texas State Drill Championships (no shop talk!). Texas State Drill Championships Dignitaries The Texas State Drill Championships will be visited by many dignitaries throughout the day. They will be observing various drill competitions and will be acting as Guest Speakers at the Closing Awards Ceremony. Teams are expected to maintain the highest possible military bearing and discipline throughout. Texas State Drill Championships Closing Awards Ceremony All cadets are required to attend the Closing Awards Ceremony Friday evening. Schools will be seated in the stands and the Cadet Commanders will go forward to receive their team's trophy when called. The actual Awards Ceremony is not expected to last more than one hour. Event Standings Report & Scoresheet Packages If time allows, final event standings and scoresheet packages will be distributed following the Awards Ceremony. Should time be too limited to allow for this, these packages will be mailed to schools within 7 days after the event. Trash Detail Schools are required to maintain their section of the bleachers by removing any trash throughout the day and particularly at the end of the day, whether the trash was generated by your school’s cadets or not! Large garbage bags will be distributed to all schools at registration for this purpose. It should be noted that cadets are not allowed to bring concession foods into the bleacher seating. This should significantly minimize the trash that needs to be removed. Schools will be directed as to where in the building they should drop off their full & tied closed garbage bags throughout the day.

George Bush Presidential Library The museum exhibits reveal the unique influences and challenges which shaped George Bush's life and presidency. On a larger scale, this museum encompasses much of U.S. history since 1941. Through original artifacts, film, photographs, documents, music, sound effects, and interactive video and computerization, this special museum experience is both educational and entertaining. Some of the larger museum features include a World War II Avenger Torpedo Bomber, a 1947 Studebaker, a slab of the Berlin Wall, and precise replicas of President Bush's Camp David and Air Force One offices. The presidential exhibits document George Bush's exceptional leadership during times of crisis -- the reunification of Germany, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the Gulf War. The importance of family, friends, and politics also are part of the museum's colorful story. Yet, the overall theme of the museum is the nobility of public service as exemplified by the lives of George and Barbara Bush. Approximate time to tour the Presidential Library: 2 hours. For more info, visit their website at: http://bushlibrary.tamu.edu. This attraction is NOT to be missed.

Texas A&M University – Corps of Cadets Museum The Texas State Drill Championships would not be possible without the support of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets. The Corps is “rolling out the red carpet” for the Texas State Drill Championships cadets and wishes to give everyone a big Texas “Welcome” to their campus. While at TAMU, SNI encourages all schools to expose their cadets to one of the nation’s finest universities. Schools are welcome to have their cadets take a tour of the Corps of Cadets Museum, which is rich in military history. It is truly a one of a kind experience. A Texas A&M rep will be contacting all TSDC schools with additional information about Texas A&M, the Corps of Cadets and how their program can be of assistance to those cadets you may have that are seeking college & scholarship opportunities. Approximate time to tour the museum: 30-60 minutes.

Texas A&M University – Appelt Aggieland Visitor’s Center Schools that have cadets interested in attending Texas A&M University should definitely take the time to visit their Appelt Aggieland Visitor’s Center. They can have many of their questions answered by Aggie students as well as view their truly outstanding welcome film. Approximate time to visit the Center and view the welcome film: 30 minutes.

Texas A&M University – Student Recreation Center This facility will be available for schools to take their cadets during free time while in College Station. The cost is $7.00 per cadet for the whole day. The Student Recreation Center is located directly across the street from Reed Arena where the TSDC event will be held. The Student Recreation Center is 373,000 sq. ft., roughly the equivalent to the space of five football fields. The $36.4- million structure is a premiere facility among university recreation and fitness complexes. Some of the highlights of the building include multi-purpose gyms with badminton, basketball and volleyball courts, indoor soccer courts, 14 racquetball/handball and two squash courts with glass backwalls. The Rec Center is home to a 14,000-square foot area with machine weights, free weights, cardio-vascular equipment, and a fitness cinema, five activity rooms for aerobics, dance and martial arts and a quarter-mile four-lane walking/jogging track. It features a 42-foot indoor rock climbing facility with interchangeable hand and footholds, an outdoor activity area with a six-lane lap and a free-form pool with a cool water spa. The building also houses a natatorium that seats 2,500 with a 50-meter, eight-lane Olympic-size pool, a five-lane instructional pool, a diving well with one and three meter springboards and competitive platforms and hot tubs.
