3. Doll with bisque porcelain head and white kid leather stuffed body, and dressed as a Quaker. Her clothes are homemade and she may have been intended as an ornament, rather than as a toy. Made around 1870

4. Russian doll dressed in Chukotka style c. 1930s. Chukotka is bordered in the north by the Chukchi Sea and the East Siberian Sea, which are part of the Arctic Ocean. In Winter the temperature there can go down to -35 degrees Celsius

11. The ‘Old Woman in a Shoe’, presented to a five year old girl in 1860 as a needlework prize. The imitation leather shoe holds peg of the old woman and her 13 children.

12. Meccano Tram. Patented by Frank Hornby in 1901, Meccano was at the height of its popularity in the l920s and 1930s. This model was probably built around the l960s

17. Afro Caribbean baby doll dating from 1926. She was given to Mrs Smith, the donor, when she was a year old. Knitted pants are of a later date

18. Doll’s high chair from the l930s. Hinged at the front so that it could be folded down to make a low chair, which was on wheels

23. Doll’s house. A miniature replica of Clare Priory, Suffolk. It was made for the children of the Barker family, who lived at the Priory in 1804.
