Characters on the American dad! are a funny, exaggerated version of the variety of personalities that you can find in the family. Each of them has its own quirks, charms and personal style. What is ultra-conservative? What is a bleeding liberal heart? What episode should you watch to see the best of each character? Members of the Smith family run a gamut of political parties, from Stan Smith, a super-conservative father, to Hayley Smith, a bleeding liberal. Meet the main characters of the American Pope!. Stan Smith is a CIA agent who sees an arrow on a grassy hill even in the most innocent situations. He has a shoot-first-ask-later attitude that gets him into trouble in almost every episode. Stan Smith is voiced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy). Best episode: Hot water when Stan buys a hot tub to relax at the end of the day. But the hot tub (voiced by Cee Lo Green) has its own plans. Pretty soon Stan will be the life of a party, and his family will not be happy. Twentieth Century Fox Francine Smith is Stan's sweet wife. She's a modern woman caught in the role of a traditional wife. She loves Stan, but she spends most of her time trying to talk him out of crazy schemes. She tried her own career, including real estate and her own bakery, but they fell short. Francine Smith is voiced by Wendy Shaal (Little Soldiers, six feet under). Best episode: Not a particularly desperate housewife when Francine wants to join an exclusive women's club so she can feel accepted. But she learns that in order to be a member of the Church, she must deceive Stan. We see Stepford's wife side being a bored housewife. Haley is Stan's very liberal feminist daughter. They always disagree, and Stan usually interferes in her affairs with dire consequences. To Hayley's credit, she never gives up her values, no matter how much grief it causes her at home. Hayley Smith is voiced by Rachel McFarlane (Family Guy, Johnny Bravo). Best episode: Haylias, in which Stan activates Hayley, who is a sleeping agent, to keep her from taking off to France to sow her wild oats. While he tries to marry her to the senator's son, she wigs and tries to kill Stan. This episode is a hilarious look at the father-daughter rivalry that exists on American Dad!. Twentieth Century Fox's Steve Brake is the son of Stan's teen. He's not very popular, but he's very smart. He even published his own book! He and their alien Roger (see below) often go on a disastrous adventure. Steve Smith is voiced by Scott Grimes (Party of Five, Brothers Group). Best episode: 1600 candles when Stan and Francine use top secret The CIA messing with Steve's age. Steve's hilarious announcement that he hit puberty kicks off a crazy string of events, showing us Steve how Steve as a 21-year-old man (who's still at school). Roger is an alien Stan, rescued from Area 51. Speaking like Paul Lind, he spends his days drinking martinis and watching bad TV. Although Roger has ambitions and needs, he is stuck in the attic of the house, he is forbidden to open to the outside world. Roger is also voiced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy). Best episode: Brains, brains and cars, when Stephen and Haley leave for the summer, Francine tries to spend time with Stan. Roger's antics to bring back her hilarious attention, including his Disney princess getting up. Twentieth Century Fox Claus is a German goldfish family that harbors strong desires for Francine. Lecherous Klaus is the weakest link in an otherwise stellar cast of characters. If Klaus got reddened in the next episode, I wouldn't miss it. Klaus is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, ). Best episode: Dr. Claustus, when Klaus and his treacherous ways take center stage. Klaus schemes to have Roger sent to Iraq so he can take over Dr. Penguin (one of Roger's alter ego), a family therapist. But he does more harm than good. A year after his abduction, Jeff still hopes to reunite with Hayley in the all-new Longest Distance Relationship Season Finale episode of AMERICAN DAD. Jeff started out as Hayley's hippie boyfriend, but later became her husband after they escaped in 100 AD. In Naked to the limit once again, Roger sends Jeff into space when Jeff discovers that he is an alien. Finally, in Saint, Shet, Jeff Back!, Jeff's Brain is implanted in a alien so that he can, like, stay with Haley. Jeff is voiced by Jeff Fisher. Best episode: The longest distance relationship is when Jeff tries to get back to Hayley through a wormhole, but ends up leaving her alone when he learns how miserable her life would be, like waiting for him. Full cognitive edition of Avery Bullock by coward Stan Smith. Avery (pictured, right) is Stan's boss at the CIA. He's as stretched as Stan, and sometimes, just as eccentric. One day he had a fight with Haley until she went back to her old boyfriend. Sometimes he breaks into iambic pentameter or rhymed dialogue because it's voiced by classic-trained actor Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation, X-Men). As a Family Guy, American Dad has a lot of Seth MacFarlane in every episode. Yes, he voices two main but there are a lot of talents to be found in other cast members.
