The history of Baripada College is the history of expansion of knowledge and education in North Odisha. At a time when there was no such wide spread of college education and people had to send their children to the outside for higher education, there came a group of intellectuals to establish a college in the name of Baripada College in the heart of the town. Baripada College is on the threshold of celebrating of its 34 years eventful existence in 2015. The college was started with I.A. class in 1981 affiliated to Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Today Baripada College has transformed itself from budding institute into a value based high quality college over a period of time. The learning environment, rich academic resources and high intellectual capital base provide the right ambience and perfect platform for developing a bright young mind into a dynamic and socially conscious citizen of India. The college as a pioneer institute takes every effort to imbibe the values of social sensitivity, ethical courage and self tride motivation among students. Walking along the corridors of history with much ups and downs, the college has been accreditated by NAAC with ‘B’ Grade with CGPA of 2.23 in 2009. Now the college is fortunate enough to face 2nd cycle of NAAC accreditation with its newly built up academic blocks, Library- cum-Reading Room, Boys’ Hostel, Women’s Hostel and many more infrastructural set up. The college will continue to attract students of both Odisha and neighbouring States for its quality education in Arts, Science and I.T. The college is committed to lead the students to meet the challenges of the ever intensifying competition and excel in every sphere of their lives and help in nation building. It is indeed a great pleasure and privilege to submit the Self Study Report (SSR) of Baripada College, Baripada-2 for the 2nd cycle of accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangaluru. Baripada College is one of the premier co-educational institution located in the District Head Quarter of Mayurbhanj, the largest district of Odisha on the foothills of National Park, Similipal Tiger Reserve and Baripada College is a Govt. recognised aided college affiliated to North Orissa University, Takatpur, Baripada under the fold of UGC recognition 2F and 12B. Preparation of SSR has been made as per the guidelines of NAAC and I appreciate the team effort of NAAC Co-ordinator and members. The teaching learning and evaluation, extension, infrastructure, learning resources, students support, progression, governance, leadership management, innovation, best practices and department routine works of this college are briefly presented in this report. All the activities of the college in the past and present with its vision and mission are reflected with utmost care, honesty and clarity to the best of my knowledge and belief. The college may introduce honours programmes to facilitate progression to post-graduate studies. The College may introduce a course on ‘Communicative English’ and a Certificate course on ‘Repair and Maintenance of Electronic Instruments’. The College may introduce programmes for personality development for the students. Departments of Arts subjects may also try to build up their own departmental libraries. Students may be allowed to borrow at least two books at a time from the central library. The College may encourage research among faculty members. The College may obtain feedback from students on campus experience. The College may organize special coaching for competitive exams. Greater participation of students in physical activities may be ensured by introducing Kabbadi, Kho-kho, calisthenics and Martial Art. Baripada College, Baripada-2 has seriously taken up the following steps to fulfil the suggested recommendations. 1. The College introduced 10 Honours programmes to facilitate progression to post graduate studies. 2. The college introduced a course on communicative English and introduced training programme on Repair and maintenance of electrical appliances. 3. The institution has taken the service of Mr. Arun Kumar Dash to take personality development twice in a week on contractual basis. 4. The college has taken initiative to build up departmental library in both Arts and Science streams. 5. Presently the students are allowed to borrow 4 books (Hons), 2 books (Pass) at a time from the college library. 6. The college has allowed most of the faculty to undergo research work. Now 5 faculty are doing Ph.D. in North Orissa University and 4 faculty have already been awarded with Ph.D. Degree and 10 faculty have already completed M.Phil. Degree and 7 nos. of teachers are doing M.R.P. funded by U.G.C. 7. The college is used to take feedback from students on campus experience to enhance teaching learning process. 8. The college has already procured competitive exam. oriented books from U.G.C. grants to provide coaching for competitive examination. 9. The college has introduced martial Arts, Kabaddi, Archeri along with other regular games and sports. NAAC for Quality and Excellence in Higher Education___________________________ 4 Self Study Report of Baripada College, Baripada-2................................ 5 Apart from recommendations the other post accreditation initiatives taken by the college are stated below : 1. 2 nos. of Women’s Hostel built inside the college campus. 2. 01 no. of Boys’ Hostel built at the extension college campus. 3. Library was shifted to newly constructed library cum reading room. 4. Indoor Stadium has been built up with multi Gym facilities. 5. New class rooms have been developed. 6. 10 KV Generator has been installed for power back up. 7. Both National and State level UGC sponsored seminars organised in the college. 8. There is a tremendous growth in the pass percentage of students. 9. Number of students increased and there is no vacant of seats in any department. 10. As a best practice the college provides free computer education to all students and staff. NAAC for Quality and Excellence in Higher Education___________________________ 5 Self Study Report of Baripada College, Baripada-2................................ 6 SWOC analysis of the Institution Strength: The Institution has spent the UGC funds and has initiated different curricular and extracurricular activities. 1. New boys and girls hostel have been constructed including new academic block to accommodate new disciplines. 2. Faculty of the institution are accountable to their assignment. 3. The institution attracts both rural and tribal students because of its care and concern for the all round development of the personality. 4. Number of Ph.D and M.Phil has been increased within last five years. 5. Faculty has taken the pain for publication of books. 6. Honours programme has been introduced in ten subjects. 7. Ten numbers of National and State Level Seminars have been organised with the financial support of UGC. 8. Students have won many prizes in University level, State level and National level in sports, NSS, debates and Quiz competition. 9. Admission of graduate students has been increased in last two years due to good university result. 10. Locational advantage of the institution is the biggest strength attracts more numbers of students. Weakness: 1. Self financing courses to be introduced. 2. Writing and Communicative skill of the students at the Entry level of the +3 1st Yr. are not up-to the mark due to pass out from the odia medium education. 3. Placement of alumni in top MNCs and administrative level are not noticeable. 4. The financial status of the students is very poor. As there are no big industry set-ups nearby, industry exposure are not up to the mark. Opportunity: 1. After opening of honours in different subjects opportunities are available for the students for higher studies. 2. Because of opening of honours in English, opportunities lies in getting placement in English medium schools which is in growth aspects. 3. Introduction of Tourism and hospitality services courses may be beneficial for the student because of the National Park surrounded to the district ( Similipal Tiger Reserve.) 4. To introduce SANTALI language i.e ‘ALICHIKI’ for tribal study. 5. Archery can be introduced in sports activities which is a hobby and tradition of the tribals of Mayurbhanj district.. Challenges: 1.
