Graduated from the Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture in Bu- charest, Radu Dragan has become a prominent architect and urban planner, establishing his own company in Paris, Dragan Architecture, which was founded in 2007. He is a proud member of the French Order of Architects. In addition, the architect has also taught for over ten years in an Architecture School.

The opportunity to enter in the design industry arose in 2001 after a client requested a decoration proposal for his Conference Centre in Saudi Arabia. Despite the fact that his office, which he managed with some friends, was only executing architecture projects, after a convincing and thought out presentation, they were the chosen ones to complete the proposal from a long list of competitors.

Concerning his signature style, Radu Dragan discloses, “As an architect, I was used to thinking about space, not only about the walls and floor decoration, but to think the space in its whole, to think to proportions between void and empty, and so on.” The architect’s most beloved style to use in spaces is minimal- ist and refined; however, it is a variety that does not attract all sorts of crowds, so the company doesn’t get asked very often. He furthers explains that the most coveted desires involve classical and expensive decorations, and he finds it difficult to convince certain clients otherwise.

Moreover, Dragan considers that there aren’t that many dis- similarities between architecture and interior design, only as of lately, has this comparison gained notice mainly due to extreme specialisation, as he continued “Did the Pope Sixtus IV ask Mi- chelangelo to decorate the Sistine Chapel as an architect, as an interior designer? In his time, this question would have been per- fectly incongruous!”

A FASCINATING AND MEMORABLE CREATION BY PEPE LEAL

Held in Casa Décor Madrid, it all started with a challenge that was brought up by AICEP Portugal Global - Trade & Investment Agency from the Portuguese Government - to the Spanish interior designer Pepe Leal. After taking it, Pepe´s main goal was to break up with the conceived idea that Portugal is old fashioned and rustic, highlighting the fact that it is a country where tradition and topicality go along with peace and quality. From the ceilings, passing through the walls and floor, until the dé- cor itself, each and every detail came from Portugal in the creation of a Lusitano Corner. Pepe Leal is the protagonist in the conception of this project. Passionate for Portugal, he is one of the most renowned Interior De- signers in Spain. He considers Portugal to be “sophisticated and ele- gant” and believes that extraordinary things are made there, things that people from Spain are not aware of. He carefully selected Portuguese historic and significant materials, like cork, blue tiles and pink marble, so that he would be able to reflect perfectly the Portuguese culture and the kind of furniture that has been made in Portugal. The rich handcrafted Portuguese tradition walks hand in hand with the modern design of its indus- try in this Pepe Leal´s creation. The display puts together various atmospheres towards a greater chance to show a wider variety of products. A perfect and glamorous fusion between traditional and contemporary reflects exactly what Portugal represents in this in- dustry nowadays. All luxury furniture pieces were flawlessly selected, among them you can find: Heritage Sideboard by Boca do Lobo, Brubeck Suspen- sion Light by Delightful, and other brands. Everything happened in Madrid, the capital city of Spain and the perfect place to toss new trends as it is a golden mine of Interior Designers. With a cosmopolitan and sophisticated lifestyle, Madrid is also a splendid brand display for tourists from all over the world. This journey has just begun in Madrid but it is not over yet. The possibility of taking this idea to other countries is open so lets look forward to it. PROJECTS //

We have started our journey in April, the streets were crowded, in its typical Milan street style, as it normally is in the background of Salone del Mobile. You could feel and smell the excitement and preparation in the air. The city of design, fashion and art is eager to open its doors to visitors from all over the world.

MILANO | VERONA | FIRENZE | GENOVA | TORINO GENOVA WHERE TO EAT

DEL CAMBIO It is no surprise that we enjoyed our meal so much at DEL CAMBIO Restaurant, one of the most elegant restaurants in Italy. Since it opened in 1757, the restaurant Del Cambio has been a significant address for beauty and food lovers. Today, the mesmerizing decoration and furnishing from the 19th century, brought back its original charm and splendour. Meanwhile, some works created by Martino Gamper, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Izhar Patkin, Pablo Bronstein and Arturo Herrera are engaged in an insightful conversation with the past.

Matteo Baronetta is the young and talented chef that leads the kitchen who bravely and respectfully interprets the typical recipes of piedmont cuisine. The regional excellence meets unusual and unexpected ingredients looking for an equilibrium. The wines chart is wide and of the highest level and is led by the piedmontese labels with some connoisseur’s awless pearls.

TORINO MUST SEE

We are on the road again, curious to discover more about Italy, and it has been a flavourful experience. As we are reaching the end of our journey, we need to say how grateful we are for all the hospitality and kindness we encountered in each visit. Torino is our final destination, where business and art meet together. It is sitting in the northwest corner of Italy, nearby the river Po in the Italian region of Piemonte and surrounded by the Alps from west and north. During our visit to Torino (Turin) we’ve learn that it was the first capital of Italy, in 1865. The fourth largest city in Italy behind Rome, Milan and Naples, it is a Baroque city with streets highlighted with piazzas, porticoes, and cafés. The culinary world of this city is enriched by very rare white truffles, vermouth wine, and solid chocolate. The slow food movement which defends the use of local ingredients celebrating the art of enjoying a long unhurried meal was started in Bra, near Turin. HOTELS WE COVET GALLERY PARK HOTEL
