40 Annual Report and Financial Statement of Accounts 2020 The Christchurch Football Club (Inc.) 41 CFC GOLDEN OLDIES, CHRISTCHURCH GENTLEMEN

2020 Signalled a changing of the guard with long standing servant Bones Hussey standing down from his role as Chief Organiser, Fixture Secretary and Captain. The great news is we retained his services as Treasurer and laundry guy – thanks for all your service to the Gentlemen over the years Bones. Our incoming committee of Lano (Executive Management and Fundraising Guru), Rookie (Fixture Secretary) and Spud (Chairman and Captain) did a great job with Lano and Rookie shouldering most of the pre season work and Spud running the match day squad and after match formalities. Like much of daily life in 2020 our playing season was impacted by Covid 19 and we ended up with just 3 games against Burnside, Saracens and Lyttelton. The reduced schedule meant that injuries were reduced and enthusiasm remained high, we had great numbers for all our games (optimum numbers for the sport of Golden Oldies is 30 or more). Surprisingly, we played some good rugby and whilst no score is kept at this grade I would say we were definitely the more talented and better looking team on the day. One of our goals this year was to bring some old school values back and we made sure that we had the team bus running for away games and drank plenty of beer with our opponents after the game. A real highlight for our last home game was seeing the lads cook the grub for our opponents, it really was a strange and wonderful mix of crock pot dishes that turned up on the day and this time no reports of anyone getting sick from Hitmans cooking. Thanks Karen for your support in opening up the Clubrooms. Player of the year was a difficult choice with many players and spectators voting for Spud who was generally a class above everyone else on the field and in the Clubrooms. In the end he was soundly beaten 37 votes to 1 in favour of Jacob Levington who was our top tryer scorer in his break through season, Jacob we are really proud to have you in our team mate. Dick of the Day and the coveted red and black toilet seat award was dominated by Hitman who has really taken great pride in winning it every week. Special mention to Jeremy who was also often in the mix. Rugby Goals for the Gentlemen in 2021 - More Games – More Cooking – Better Jokes at Speeches – Team Trip. If you are over 35 and looking for life after competitive rugby feel free to come down and join us next season.
